ABOUT THE EDITORS
Josefina Figueira-McDonough, PhD, is Professor of Justice Studies and SocialWork (trained in sociology and social work) at Arizona State University, Tempe. Dr. Figueira-McDonoughwas trained in socialwork at the University of Michigan and has held faculty positions at theUniversity of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Vanderbilt University. Her research on social justice, specifically gender, deviance and control, and the ecology of poverty, has been widely published, and her most recent book is Community Analysis and Praxis: Towards a Grounded Civil Society.
Rosemary C. Sarri, PhD, is Professor Emerita of SocialWork and Faculty Associate for Social Research at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. A widely published author on the subjects of child welfare, single-mother families, the impact of social policy on families, and the justice system, she has many years of teaching and research experience in juvenile and adult criminal justice. She has served on several national and international commissions on family well-being and juvenile justice, and is currently engaged in a study of juvenile justice-structured decision-making, a study of programs for high-risk and delinquent female adolescents, and a study of minority overrepresentation in the juvenile justice system.
CONTRIBUTORS
Wendy C. Ascione received a BA from the University of Michigan in 2000, concentrating in Women's Studies (graduating with honors) and in Psychology. Her undergraduate thesis examined the effect of a mother's incarceration on her children and the availability of services and resources to assist children and mothers in coping with the incarceration. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in social work at the University of Michigan.
