This book serves as a case study of the Sudanese Communist Party and its impact as a grassroots movement that championed the Sudanese people. It accomplishes this by providing a rich narrative that details the SCPs inception, main players, important milestones and values of the Party. In this narrative, the author not only delivers a comprehensive examination of the party components, he guides readers through their connections to one another, but also associates them, and the party, to Sudanese society at large. Using original party documents and interviews with leading figures, this book is the first time this subject has been detailed so extensively in one publication. It is also the only up-to-date work available on the subject and includes analysis of the most recent party congress and the division of the Sudan and creation of the newly independent Republic of South Sudan.

Contents
The development of communist movements in the Arab world has been a lifelong academic and personal interest, resulting in the publication of four country-specific case studies of Arab communist parties and a general Arab World communist movement study. In light of the now two-decade absence of the Soviet Union and the international communist project in world affairs, it is fair to question the relevance of the study of regional communist movements.
Fundamentally, aside from the intrinsic historical value of such a venture, the continued study of Arab communist movements is worthwhile in its identification of themes advanced by these parties that have shown continued resonance in Arab thought and politics. The communist parties of the Arab world were independent movements organized at the grassroots, not as simple extensions of Soviet power, but instead as struggles against foreign domination, dictatorship, and political reaction. The progressive themes represented in the projects of the Arab communist parties have shown continued resonance, even as the parties themselves have receded in influence.
