INTRODUCTION
TheUnited States is a nation of a few haves (the 1%) and many have-nots.This is indisputable and increasingly even admitted by the corporate-owned massmedia.
Furthermore, the United States is not a democracy. Not if by democracy one means a societyin which ordinary people have the real say in shaping government laws and behavior. On the contrary, we live in a plutocracy: a billionaire class has the real sayin both the private and the public sector. If lying us into a war that cost trillions of dollars (going to profit themilitary industrial complex) and thousands of American lives, and if makingAmericans kill thousands of perfectly innocent Iraqis and torture others (Abu Ghraib) for no good reasonfora lie!and thus suffer emotionally (with an extremely high suicide rateafter returning home) if they are fortunate enough only to be mentally orphysically wounded and not killed, if this is not treating us all (includingthe have-nots in the enemy nation) like dirt, then I dont know what is.
Peoplerise to positions of power in our society by demonstrating to the billionaireclass that they are loyal to it, and not loyal to the have-nots. From newspapereditors to corporate managers to government officials to university presidents,it is well known that it is a career-ender to displease the billionaire class.Expose the lies that the ruling class uses to manipulate and controltodivide and rulethe have-nots, and one will pay a heavy price. This iswhy these lies, such as that Saddam Hussein had Weapons of Mass Destruction, gounchallenged in the media for years and years after they are known by theinsiders to be lies; if the media ever admits the truth it is long after thelies have performed the manipulation of the public they were designed toaccomplish.
Whatis less well known is that the great majority of Americans know very well thatwe live in a fake democracya dictatorship of the rich. What is even lesswell known is that, when asked if they think it is a good idea or a bad idea toRemove the rich from power to have real, not fake, democracy with no rich andno poor a very large majority of Americans say it is a good idea, or a greatidea. And what is still even less well known, what is virtually a secretguarded by the ruling elite as if it were a national security secret, is this:A large majority of Americans who consider themselves to be progressives andalso a large majority of Americans who consider themselves to beconservatives BOTH think it would be a good (or great!) idea to remove therich from power to have real, not fake, democracy with no rich and no poor. This aspiration is what I call an egalitarian revolutionary aspiration.
Thisprofound agreementthis shared egalitarian revolutionary aspiration--amongthe large majority of Americans is a fact. One can verify it for oneself bysimply asking random people (conservatives or progressivesit makes no difference)the question about removing the rich from power mentioned above. Others and Ihave asked thousands of people this question, in liberal Boston andconservative rural New Hampshire, at a Bernie Sanders rally and at a pro-Trumprally, to people who listen to NPR and people who listen to Rush Limbaugh. Inevery case (unless one goes to a wealthy place such as Beverly Hills Isupposewhich I havent done) one finds at least 80% of the peopleoftenmoreagreeing enthusiastically. This is a fact.
Thereason the haves keep this fact about the have-nots a closely guarded secret isto prevent the have-nots from discovering that in wanting an egalitarianrevolution they are indeed a large majority. The rich need people who want anegalitarian revolution to be politically paralyzed by hopelessness due tothinking they are such a small minority that it is pointless to even thinkabout, never mind try to accomplish, an egalitarian revolution. The rich knowthat if ever the have-nots discovered that it is a large majority of Americanswho want to remove the rich from power to have real, not fake, democracy withno rich and no poor, it would be curtains for the dictatorship of the rich. Themajority of Americans would, for once, start acting like they were the majorityto make this country be the way the majority actually wants it to be.
Toremain in power, the rich need to divide-and-rule the have-nots. Not only musteach have-not person be made to believe that hardly any of the other have-notsshare ones egalitarian revolutionary aspiration, they must also be made tobelieve that half of the have-nots are motivated by such disgustingly vile aimsand values that they deserve to be viewed with contempt or even fear. This iswhy the ruling class orchestrates (or did orchestrate, or is getting ready toorchestrate) big public debates about the topics discussed in the chapters ofthis book: race, feminism, same-sex marriage, illegal immigration, Muslimrefugee immigration, abortion, transgender bathrooms, Israel, gun control and nonviolence, free speech, universal basic income and reparations.
Asthis book will show, the ruling class has deliberately ensured that the debateson these issues maximize divisiveness. To do this the ruling class-controlledmedia create a false framework for each debate that either incorporates anunstated false premise or excludes from consideration a viewpoint that manypeople on both sides would agree with, or censors key facts. These falseframeworks are designed to make people on each side of the question view peopleon the other side as so horrible that solidarity with them in the fight againstthe haves is out of the question.
Thisis whats happening in the United States today around what are sometimesreferred to as the social issues. The split usually separates theNPR-listening demographic from the conservative-talk-radio-listening demographic and turns them each against the other; both groups are about thesame size.
Iwrote this book right after publishing my earlier one: NO RICH AND NO POOR: The Populist Goal We CAN and Must Win. Thatbook not only shows that most people want a real egalitarian revolution, but also addresses the concerns people have (due to theanti-egalitarian propaganda of the rich) that even if an egalitarian revolutionwere possible, it would not actually remain a real one; it would end up notmaking things better and would possibly (like Communism definitely did!) just makethings terribly anti-democratic with some animals more equal than others as manyof us have read in George Orwells famous AnimalFarm. I hope readers of this, my latest book, also read the earlier one;this one is essentially a book-length version of the short Chapter Fifteen inthe earlier one.
