There are moments in ones life when even words fail to express deep-felt feelings of the heart. I know that this is one such moment in my life, to express gratitude to the many known and also the unknown hearts and minds. It is like capturing the captivating reflection of the full moon in all its glory in a small bowl of water.

A whack on my head

A great Zen Master once called his most intimate disciple suddenly in the middle of the night. The disciple was meditating outside the Masters house. He came in almost immediately.

The Master said, I had to call you urgently. All these years, I have been hitting you with my stick. Each time you got whacked, you learned something more on awareness. As I see it, you have reached very close to the ultimate goal. By tomorrow morning you will be a Buddha (the enlightened one). So I have to hit you one last time.

The disciple smiled after hearing his Masters curious wish.

He then bowed down to take the whack. The Master whacked him for the last time.

Deeply overwhelmed, the disciple touched the Masters feet with overflowing tears of gratitude.

The one who awakens you is a Master. I see myself as the disciple who has realized his passion for money. I am nothing more than an instrument in the cathartic process. This book would, however be incomplete, had it not been for the many lovely people around me. I thank them immensely for their encouragement and an occasional whack on my head to awaken me from my slumber.
