PROLOGUE
PROLOGUE
Prologue. Prologue ? My editor told me I might want to start with a prologue. Okay. But what the heck is a prologue ?
Oh, of course! An event or action that leads to another event or situation.
Yeah, I Googled it, and I still dont know what it means, or how to write a proper one. So instead, let me just use this space in the book to introduce myself.
My name is Ryan Higa. You might know me from the Internet. But I am also the author of this book.
Actually, I shouldnt say the author. Technically, Im a coauthor of this book. You arent supposed to know this, but my publisherhereafter1 to be known as The Publishing Company, or TPC for shorthired me a ghostwriter. A real, profes-sional, anonymous writer whos supposed to secretly help me tell this story. Her name is Sarah, but well just call her by her last name, Tomlinson, to protect her identity. Ive even included a picture of Tomlinson and me so you can have a bet- ter idea of whos going to be telling you this story.
1 Whoa. I've barely even started my book and I've already started writing things like hereafter.

(She is a ghost, after all.)
Look, if it isnt blatantly obvious, Ive never written a book before. Im not gonna pretend like Im a professional book writer. Im not even gonna pretend thatI read a lot of books. Im not gonna pretend I say things like going to instead of gonna. Im not a good speeller. My grammer arent not that good.
And with every word I write in this document that will become The Book, I get one step closer to cracking the teeth of the people who work at The Publishing Company, from all the cringing theyll be doing reading this.
So why am I writing a book ?
A. Because I'm a YouTuber and I'm trying to become a bestselling author to get people to think I'm smarter than I really am.
B. Because I'm a YouTuber and that's what YouTubers do to make that cha-ching, bling-bling, $$$, etc.
C. Because I signed a contract with a publishing company thinking it would be a breeze to write a book, only later realizing that I have no idea how to write one.
D. Because I have a story to tell that I believe will help influence and inspire people (especially kids) who are going through tough times in their lives, to not only persevere through those tough times, but to excel in them.
Well, if you guessed D, youre absolutely wrong!
Im a YouTuber trying to make dat money by tricking foos into thinking Im smart, all while screwing over a publishing company that
Okay, that was a joke. Not necessarily a great joke, but at least now I know that jokes dont translate the same way in a book as they do on video.2
The real answer is Dand, well, a little bit of C too.
2 Look, Ma, I'm learning already! (Seriously, this book is so hard to write, my mom is helping too. So I know she's reading this. HI, MOM.)
