I then hope, as a result, that youll go out to become a beacon of hope and a shining example of how easy and enjoyable it is to make simple, healthy changes that really work to rewind your body clock and make you happier, healthier and younger and in doing so that you support and encourage others to make these changes too.

What we need is a grass-roots initiative to combat the largely avoidable, and even reversible, diseases that we associate with ageing poorly. We are getting no discernible help from our governments to make these changes, so we have to take matters into our own hands. Please get out and spread the word and become one of the grass-roots team that will be the generation that truly makes a difference to the health, vitality and wellbeing of your nation.

My family has been an inspiration for this book, and my mother, Jill Lucas, in particular is one of the main reasons that I rebelled against the medical status quo and chose the more natural path that I now find myself on. In the 1970s, she experienced a very long, extremely debilitating illness, which was, unforgivably, misdiagnosed several times medical misogyny being even more prevalent back then. Eventually, she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Now, back in the 1970s, diabetics had to follow a very rigid regime of specified insulin doses and she had to weigh every morsel of food to calculate its carbohydrate content. Mum, being the brilliant woman that she is and always a rebel soon realized that this accepted system wasnt natural, or even remotely reflective of real life. So, she started to adjust her insulin intake to account for the food that shed eaten and the amount of activity that shed done. She felt that she was mimicking the action of a normally functioning pancreas. This seemed very logical to her and she was doing brilliantly; her blood sugar levels were perfect, with very few spikes or troughs. However, when she told her doctors what she was doing, their response was Youre crazy, youre going to die! But Mum, being Mum, just carried on and continued to get wonderful blood sugar readings and felt better than she had done in years.

In the end, an enlightened consultant looked at her approach and decided that she was really on to something pretty special, so he ran a trial and discovered that Mums approach was, in fact, ideal! It now has a name DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) and Jill was the inspiration for this. So, I learned at a very early age that you cant rely upon the status quo and that sometimes it pays to rebel and find a new and better way. And thats what we are doing in this book.

I want to thank Dr Frank Sabatino, DC, PhD, for his brilliance, kindness, endless encouragement and advice. Its a funny story, because in all my years of research and writing about the scientific side of biological age reversal, I found myself repeatedly referencing published research papers by Sabatino, F.D., one of the leading scientists in the gerontology field. Now, as luck would have it, I was introduced to a charming American doctor by our mutual friend Bethany Vinal, and, a few months later, the penny dropped and I realized that this lovely man was, in fact, the Sabatino, F.D. that Id been referencing and inspired by, all these years.

Finally, I say a huge thank you to Roberta MacMillan (aka Wonder Woman), vice president of The CMA, who keeps everything running smoothly even when Im deeply engrossed in writing.
