This book was produced in EPUB format by the Internet Archive.

The book pages were scanned and converted to EPUB format automatically. This process relies on optical character recognition, and is somewhat susceptible to errors. The book may not offer the correct reading sequence, and there may be weird characters, non-words, and incorrect guesses at structure. Some page numbers and headers or footers may remain from the scanned page. The process which identifies images might have found stray marks on the page which are not actually images from the book. The hidden page numbering which may be available to your ereader corresponds to the numbered pages in the print edition, but is not an exact match; page numbers will increment at the same rate as the corresponding print edition, but we may have started numbering before the print book's visible page numbers. The Internet Archive is working to improve the scanning process and resulting books, but in the meantime, we hope that this book will be useful to you.

The Internet Archive was founded in 1996 to build an Internet library and to promote universal access to all knowledge. Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh

(Osho)

Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, perhaps the most controversialIndian spiritual guru till date, is counted among the mostinfluential figures of the twentieth century. He set up His firstmajor ashram in Pune, and later moved to the US, where Hisfollowers established a commune in Oregon.

Named Rajneeshpuram, this commune was spread over64,000 acres and was like a city in itself, housing more than5,000 residents by 1985. Over time, it developed its own urbaninfrastructure, complete with fire departments, a transportationsystem, a police station, shopping malls, a water reservoir, asewage-disposal plant, a post-office, a well-staffed securityforce, and even a 1,300-metre-long airstrip.

Till 1990s, Bhagwan was a bigger controversial figurethan a major spiritual guru. Though He enjoyed a massiveinternational following even back then, His irreverentdiscourses and ideas, rumours about drug addiction, and Hisgeneral disregard for laws and religions ensured that He hadmany critics and enemies everywhere, particularly in India andin the States.

His espousal of freer sexuality alarmed religious leaders inIndia and popularized Him as Sex Guru. Later in the US, Heearned the sobriquet Rolls-Royce Guru as He indulged inHis desire for luxury cars and collected close to hundred Rolls-Royces in less than five years. He reportedly had a penchantfor luxury watches and pens as well and spent hundreds andthousands of dollars of donation money on them.

When Rajneeshpuram dissolved in mid-1980s, Bhagwanwas indicted on thirty-five countscharges included immigration violations as well as making false statements on Hisvisa application. At the same time, other Rajneeshpuramleaders, including Ma Sheela, were booked for much gravercharges. These included attempts to murder public officials, setting an enormous wiretapping network, and plotting thefirst bio-terror attack on the United States. While Bhagwanwas fined $400,000 and was deported from the country, somecommune leaders were sentenced to many years of imprisonment. When nearly twenty-one countries denied Him entry,Bhagwan returned to His ashram in Pune in 1986, where Helived for another four years. A cardiac arrest reportedly killedHim in 1990.

Today, Bhagwans official Facebook page has more than750,000 Likes; His 650 books, available in 55 languages, havesold millions of copies worldwide; and His ashram in Punestill attracts 200,000 visitors annually from all over the world.

Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh perhaps was born great; inHis life He achieved greatness; and after His death a greatergreatness was thrust upon Him.

But no man is perfect. And great men like BhagwanRajneesh often have greater flaws.
