In the Company of Killers
I. Evil Enters Eden
What strange beast is this that slithers through the grove, down among the sacred trees in the sheltered cove? Mark its progress by our fear, flocks flung into flight, waking to a nightmare in the garden of delight.
II. Evil Exits Earth
Mocking, jeering as they strung 'em up, The monster fed us all the good lines, "Come down! Heal yourself! Show us Elijah!" We spat ourselves as the monster drooled and danced in glee.
And then as the warrior bellowed, "It is finished!" One foot kicked free, Swift, sure, it crushed the monster dead. And stunned, we lie a lifetime, Caught where heel meets head.
III. Picking up at Palestine
Like a child at the end of day, God picks up at Palestine, The tomb empty, the saviour back in place, Both on the best shelf and in God's mind,
The beast dying but snapping yet, As the child's breath whips by, And weprecious little people, handcrafted and greatly prized scattered across the world and the ages.
