Many times, I have been asked by the media as well as by my readersDo self-help books actually help in achieving success? Do they really help change peoples lives? I have always said a big yes as an answer to these questions. Through the medium of this communication, I would like to bring home a couple of very important points in this context.
First, only those books which have handled the subject seriously can bring about a change in the reader. Second, the reader himself has to go through these books seriously and also have the required courage to make a change in his attitude to alter the course of his life. Unfortunately, many of us like to read self-help books which are at best reassuring and make achieving success look very easy, sometimes trivial. We believe in the make-belief. We like to fantasise success at all times, and love to imagine ourselves standing undeterred on the victory stand. There are thousands of self-help books which assure success in any and every field, in a matter of merely few days, if not minutes. I wish it was that easy
Life is a reality and not a fantasy. If you are looking for success, then firstly you should stop fantasising. Stop expecting results overnightbecause that is never going to happen. If getting success could be that easy then every living human being on this planet earth, would have been successful and there would have been no failures.
For making a successful career, or a happy life, you have to first promise yourself that you will make real efforts to achieve your goals. Let me assure you that thereafter things will start moving positively for you.
This book will act as your personal coachand to learn the game you have to listen to the coach attentively. The material is rock solid and will even soak up your entire soul, provided you dont lose your faith on the coach. The aim of this coach is to alter your basic characteristicsit is like altering your DNA. If you are ready for it, then lets go ahead.
World was hit by an economic crisis of huge proportion in 2008. Was it a financial crisis? I think not. In my opinion whatever had happened is was not just a financial crisis, it had been a crisis of leadership. How else can one explain this crisiswhere economists, financial consultants, corporate honchos, political leaders, federal advisors, bankers and brokers, even media, collectively failed to see the coming of such a massive crunch. In fact, all of them collaborated to bring about this crisis. It happened because there were no whistleblowers with enough courage of conviction, no leaders to bridle the unabashed, unrealistic enthusiasm and no economists and financial experts to ring the warning bellwell in timeto save the world from utter financial chaos. It was not the failure of vision, but it was failure of courage that led to this disarray. It was failure of integrity and failure of honesty. To sum up, it was a complete failure of character at the highest levels of leadership.
During my talks and seminars, I get surprised by the fact that the corporate world lays so much stress on the cosmetics, which I love to call lipstick and rouge, and care very little about the serious stuff that needs immediate attention. Even at the Business schools, we go over-board and focus merely on developing communication skills. Leadership traits are inculcated through slogans and rhetoric, which is complete waste of time and efforts. Very little is done to build men and women with a strong character, a strong gut and, if I may say, a strong spine.
Through this book, I therefore intend building a strong youa man or a woman who has the courage of convictions, strong will and a strong character. These are the traits that you need to have if you want to be successful and come out victorious in your life. These are the traits of a leader. Each trait discussed in this bookas a separate chapteris like a life thread which will enable you to weave a strong character, like a strong fabric.
This book will become your personal guide, like a close best friend, like a personal mentor. It is divided into four partseach of these is a consolidation of certain closely related human qualities.
Read each chapter carefully and look within yourself to match it with your inner strengths and weaknesses. Then make deliberate small attempts to bring about changes in each of your characteristicsas if altering your very own DNA. This book will change your life one step at a time.

The ultimate objective of every self-help book is to help the reader do well in life. All books and their authors make sincere attempt to do so. In order to do well in life one has to earn good money, have a happy family life and above all, have a very satisfying work or professional life. In addition, it is very important for an individual to feel goodin terms of his self-worth and how the world looks at him. I personally feel at the end of the day, this is the most important factor for success. And that is the bottom line that we all should understand to proceed further. All this is desirable and also possible, but it isnt as easy as it sounds. While working towards success, people often go wrong when they look for quick fix solutions, overnight success and are wrongly convinced about Dont work hard, but work smart ideologies.
You may work efficiently and optimise your efforts, but you cannot expect to take short cuts and become successful overnight. Every winner has to earn what he wants to win. And every winner therefore needs a coach, who would show him the path to the victory stand.
