FOREWORD
History shows that during the first centuries of the Christian church, Christians did not go to war. They were committed to settling differences peacefully. Their opposition to warfare was based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
This stance began to change around the beginning of the fourth century. Emperor Constantine's edict of toleration in A.D. 313 marked the beginning of a new era. From then on, Christians began to serve actively in the military in obedience to the state.
In this brief book, the author discusses how and why most Christians came to accept participation in warfare. He uses illustrations, quotes, stories, and dialogue to show how all Christians were eventually expected to join the state in fighting national enemies. Later on, Christians moved into political leadership and began taking responsibility for government policies and actions, such as fighting in wars.
