BOOKS, AUDIOCASSETTES, AND PROGRAMS BY

BOOKS
Ive written 11 books (including this one) in the fields of psychology, mind/body medicine, womens health, and spirituality. People at seminars often ask me to explain a little bit about each one, including the order in which they were written. They are listed in chronological order below, with a brief description:
Minding the Body, Mending the Mind , Addison Wesley, 1987 (hardcover); Bantam, 1988 (tradepaper). This New York Times bestseller is a classic in mind/body medicine, as useful today as it was when it was first published. You can read more about learning to manage your mind, meditation, breathing, reframing, optimism and pessimism, and using mental imagery. Simple and accessible, it includes a self-assessment of your stress levels and physical symptoms so that you can keep track of your improvement.
Guilt Is the Teacher, Love Is the Lesson , Warner Books, 1990. This is a book about healing childhood wounds and finding spiritual meaning in your life. If you feel guilty, afraid of anger, are a perfectionist, or have an excessive need to please people, this book will help you heal, and move into your authentic self. It is also excellent for those people who have been wounded by religious fear and guilt.
On Wings of Light: Finding Hope When the Heart Needs Healing (with artist Joan Drescher), Lesley University Press, 2003. This is a truly beautiful book of illustrated meditations and affirmations to help reconnect you with your center, encourage your spiritual practice, and inspire you in difficult times. It includes wonderful guidance and specific instructions for starting a multimedia journal that can be food for your soul.
Fire in the Soul: A New Psychology of Spiritual Optimism , Warner Books,1993. This is my favorite of the books Ive written because of the many thank-you letters Ive received about it over the years. If youre wrestling with questions of faith, seeking spiritual guidance, or coping with a difficult life situation, this book can bring you tremendous insight and comfort. I think of it as a lifeline in troubling times, and a book about faith for all times. Ive been told often that it can save your life.
The Power of the Mind to Heal: Renewing Body, Mind, and Spirit (with Miroslav Borysenko), Hay House, 1994. I wrote this book to capture the workshop information and practical exercises that my former husband and I developed together. Its also available as a bestselling audiocassette program from Nightingale-Conant (see next page).
Pocketful of Miracles: Prayers, Meditations, and Affirmations to Nurture Your Spirit Every Day of the Year , Warner Books, 1995. This book is a spiritual companion and guide, based on the wisdom of many different cultures and religious traditions. It has an entry for each day of the year, keyed to the natural world, cycles, seasons, and holy days. Each daily entry consists of a seed thought for contemplation; and a prayer, practice, or meditation for the day. Many people have used it daily for years.
A Womans Book of Life: The Biology, Psychology and Spirituality of the Feminine Life Cycle , Riverhead Press, 1997. This is a book for every woman, tracing the fullness of our development through the life span. Written when I was 49 years old and coming into the wisdom years, this book provides a fresh slant on menopause, aging, intuition, and the way that we continue to grow through every cycle of our lives.
A Womans Journey to God , Riverhead Books, 2000. All major religions were founded for men, and geared to their unique biology and way of understanding the world. In this breakthrough book, I show how women can develop a spiritual path of our own. When male and female ways are both honored, we will have a true, living spirituality and a more peaceful world.
Inner Peace for Busy People: 52 Simple Strategies for Transforming Your Life , Hay House, Inc., 2001. In this book, I present 52 inspirational yet practical essays that will help you create and maintain a sense of inner peace. With a little common sense, you can learn to understand and tame the busy workings of your mind, live a life filled with compassion and love, and develop more wisdom and creativity.
