This huge book of 18 of the Lost Books of the Bible contains the following, NONE of which are Public Domain translations (beware of imitations): First Book of Adam and Eve; Second Book of Adam and Eve; Slavonic Life of Adam and Eve; First Book of Enoch; Book of Jubilees; Book of Jasher; Story of Ahikar; Apocalypse of Abraham; Apocalypse of Thomas; 4 Ezra; 2 Baruch; War Scroll: Sons of Dark Against the Sons of Light; Gospel of Philip; Gospel of Mary Magdalene; Apocryphon of John (Secret Book of John); Gospel of Thomas; Gospel of Judas; Acts 29.

The massive 684 page book does not attempt to explain why the books were not included in the Bible. To attempt to do so would not only be cursory given the lack of space, but more importantly, would be most unfair to readers as this is matter for specialist academics, who have written books on the subject.

Edward Hammond has a Doctor of Theology and has appeared on television and radio speaking about his area of expertise. He taught...

Chapter 1. The First Book of Adam and Eve

The Firstand Second Books of Adam and Eve, also known as The Conflictof Adam and Eve with Satan, are a late Christian work datinghundreds of years after the actual Biblical Scriptures.

The FirstBook of Adam and Eve tells the story of what happened to Adamand Eve after they left Eden. It tells of the difficulties theyencountered in their new home known as the Cave of Treasures, andof Satan's many appearances (often mistranslated as "apparitions")to them. The First Book of Adam and Eve also chronicles the birthof Cain and his twin sister Luluwa and of Abel and his twin sisterAklemia. It also details Cain's murder of Abel, as well as Adam'sdeath. The first book focuses on Adam's sorrow at being outside theGarden of Eden.

Adam and Eveare constantly plagued by visits from Satan, who appears to them inmany forms and attempts to trick them over and over again.

The SecondBooks of Adam and Eve is an account of the history of thepatriarchs who lived before the Flood. It chronicles the lives ofSeth's descendants on the Holy Mountain and tells how they brokeGod's commandment and left the mountain, being tricked by Cain'sdescendants.

The Firstand Second Books of Adam and Eve are classed as pseudegraphicawhich means "false works." The books are thought to have theirsource in the fifth or sixth century CE, but they show evidence ofextensive and much later Christian additions from after the time ofMiddle Ages.

The First Bookof Adam and Eve.

Chap. I.

God commandsAdam to live in the Cave of Treasures.

1 On the thirdday, God planted the garden in the east of the earth, on the borderof the world towards the east. Beyond that, towards the sun'srising, no one finds anything but water, and the water encompassesthe whole world and reaches as far as the borders of the sky.

2 To the northof the garden there is a sea which tastes clear and pure, likenothing else. It is so clear that one may look into the depths ofthe earth through it.

3 When a manwashes himself in it, he becomes clean just as it is clean, and hebecomes white just as it is white, even if he were a dark man.

4 God tookgreat pleasure in creating that sea, because he knew what wouldhappen to the man he would make. God knew that after the man hadleft the garden due to his sin, that men would be born in theearth, and that righteous ones among them would die. However, Godwould raise the souls of the righteous ones on the last day, whenthey returned to flesh, if they bathed in the water of that sea,and repented from all their sins.

5 But when Godmade Adam leave the garden, he did not put him on the north border,in case Adam went to the sea and he and Eve wash themselves in it,be cleansed from their sins, and forget the sin they had committed, and Adam no longer remembered why he was being punished for it.

6 As for thesouth side of the garden, God was not happy letting Adam livethere, because when the wind blew from the north, it would bringthe delightful scent of the trees of the garden to Adam who was onthe south side.

7 The reasonthat God did not put Adam there, was so that he would have smelledthe delightful scent of those trees and forgotten his sin, andfound comfort for what he had done, delighting in the scent of thetrees, and not being cleansed from his sin.

8 Also becauseGod is merciful and has great pity, and rules all things in a waywhich only he knows, he made our ancestor Adam live in the westernborder of the garden, because everything on that side the earth isvery spacious.

9 God commandedAdam to live there in a cave in a rock called the Cave ofTreasures, which was below the garden.

Chap. II.

Adam and Eveare upset to leave the Garden.

1 But when ourancestors Adam and Eve left the garden, they trod the ground undertheir feet, and did not knowing where they were going.

2 When theyarrived at the opening of the garden's gate, they saw the spaciousearth spread out in front of them. It was covered with large andsmall stones, and also with sand. They shook with fear, and fell ontheir faces from the fear that came on them. They were deathlyafraid.

3 Previouslythey had been in the garden land, which was beautifully plantedwith all kinds of trees, but now they now saw themselves in aforeign land which they did not know, and had never seenbefore.

4 This wasbecause previously they were filled with the grace of a BrightNature, and their hearts were not turned towards earthlythings.

5 So then hadGod pity on them when he saw them fallen in front of the gate ofthe garden, and he sent his Word to father Adam and Eve, and liftedthem from their fallen state.

Chap. III.

The promise ofthe five and a half days.

1 God said toAdam, "I have ordained days and years for this land, and you andyour descendants will live on in it, until the time is fulfilledfor me to send the Word that created you, and against which youhave sinned, the Word that made you leave the garden and thatlifted you when you had fallen.

2 "This is theWord that will again save you when the five days and a half havecome to pass."

3 But when Adamheard what God said about the great five and a half days, he didnot understand what it meant.

4 Adam thoughtthat there would be only five and a half days until the end of theworld.

5 Adam cried, and prayed that God would explain it to him.

6 Then God inhis mercy for Adam who was made after his own image and likeness, explained to him that these were 5,500 years, and how one wouldthen come and save him and his descendants.

7 But God hadpreviously made this covenant with our ancestor, Adam, in the sameterms, before he left the garden, when he was at the tree fromwhich Eve had taken the fruit and given it to him to eat.

8 When ourancestor Adam left the garden, he went past that tree, and saw howGod had changed its appearance, and how it withered.

9 When Adamwent to it he was afraid and trembled and fell down, but God in hismercy lifted him up, and then made this covenant with him.

10 When Adamwas at the gate of the garden, and saw the cherub with a sword offlashing fire in his hand, the cherub became angry and frowned athim, so both Adam and Eve became afraid of him, and thought he wasgoing to kill them. So they fell on their faces and trembled withfear.

11 But he hadpity on them, and showed them mercy. He left them and went up toheaven, and prayed to the Lord,
