INTRODUCTION

Well my goal in life, which I know is going to happen, is: Im going to retire as the best fighter ever - Floyd Mayweather, 2005

Ten years after Mayweather made this statement, he got the opportunity to prove himself right by competing in one of the most significant sporting events in history. On May 2nd of 2015, the two best fighters of their generation squared off - Floyd Mayweather against fellow Hall-of-Famer and long-time nemesis Manny Pacquiao.

This bout with Manny Pacquiao was initially expected to take place in 2009, but after many unsuccessful negotiations, boxing fans had to wait an agonizing six years before seeing The Fight of the Century take place. It was set to be the most lucrative fight in boxing history. This event was so huge that the previous failure to negotiate the fight successfully was named Event of the Year in 2010 by The Ring Magazine.

But, what made this event so huge was not just the fact that both fighters were regarded as the best of their generation, but that many considered Pacquiao to be the last remaining fighter who could defeat Mayweather. However, the fight didnt exactly follow that script. Just like Mayweathers previous 47 fights, Pacquiao could not solve the puzzle of Mayweathers incredible defense once they got inside the ring.

For the most part, Mayweather was untroubled by the threat of Pacquiao, and the fight failed to live up to the hype. It was a peculiar situation for Mayweather. The match was widely considered to be a disappointment, primarily due to Mayweathers superior skills, which made it more one-sided than fans would have liked.

Afterward, he spoke about the lose-lose situation he was in, saying: If I wouldve fought Manny really stupid and reckless....you know what the fans wouldve wrote today, and the media wouldve wrote today? [Theyd say] Floyd fought dumb, I dont know why he didnt stick to his game-plan!

It truly is a testament to Mayweathers level of greatness that the prospect of him losing had become such a sought-after event. Though many boxing fans tuned in to see a display of talent and action, many simply tuned in to see Mayweather finally lose.

Many had come to view Mayweathers undefeated winning streak as somewhat intimidating. His achievements alienated him from the everyday-person, most of whom fail to reach anywhere near such heights. The idea that someone could hold so much power and win so consistently represented a threat to the inhabitants of mainstream society.

It gave them the motivation to see Mayweather lose, so they could feel like he was humbled back down to their level. This is not uncommon. It is widely known that fans will support you on your rise, but wish for your downfall right when you reach the top.

However, what many people dont realize is the fact that Mayweather is not so different from the rest of us. He started no different from any of us. The beginnings of Mayweathers life were humbler than that of the average American. It was hard work that harnessed the talent he had and allowed him to achieve The American Dream. And in addition to a tough personal life, Mayweathers career was also a struggle.

The 300-million paydays that Mayweather received are what many people fixated on, as Mayweathers career came to a close. And, understandably, these thoughts may evoke feelings of envy. But what many of these people forget is that the early part of Mayweathers career was a struggle for stardom. It required a tremendous fight, both in and outside of the ring for Mayweather to even be in the position to receive such huge paydays.

Once you understand Floyds early career struggles and see what it took for him to get to the top, you can begin to truly appreciate his achievements. After doing this, the feeling of being alienated from his greatness transforms into something else. You may even start to feel as if you relate to him, gain a deeper understanding and be inspired to use the lessons he learned in your own life.

From a young age, Mayweather felt that he was destined to become the best fighter ever. And as of 2020, after three years of retirement, fans contently accept that Mayweather was one of the greatest fighters ever.

Mayweather became known as a cocky fighter, who many believed had an inflated ego. He was criticized for being arrogant and overconfident. But Mayweather preferred to see it only as belief, and the result of the knowledge he held deep down of what he was capable of achieving.

The intriguing thing about Mayweather was that he seemed to know exactly how great he would become. Everything he did was to carve out the career that he felt he deserved to have. While he is loved by some and hated by others, one thing is for certain - he earned the respect of the majority.

To come from where he came from and face the obstacles he faced, yet still achieve what he achieved, is nothing short of a magnificent feat. However, he is often discredited by critics who disagree with some of the routes which Mayweather took. There will always be that one fight that Mayweather avoided, or an opponent he faced that couldve been closer to his prime.

Truthfully, no matter what Floyd did, there wouldve always been a lack of satisfaction from his critics. And the sad thing is, this subtracts from the credit he truly deserves and by discrediting his success in this way, we rob ourselves of the opportunity to learn from his triumphs.

This book aims to dissect some of the unspoken principles that contributed to Floyd Mayweathers success. Well observe some of the critical moments of his evolution, and show you how you can apply it to your development.

There are four main areas which we look at:

Developing an insane work ethic

Harnessing your skill level

Marketing yourself to the world

Cashing out on your work

As you can see, these principles may also apply to those who do not box too. For example, Floyd Mayweathers media marketing abilities may help entertainers of other kinds. Or perhaps Mayweathers handling of business may help the average guy to improve on his financial situation.

At the beginning of each chapter, there will be a collection of quotes that are from Floyd Mayweather. It captures his thought patterns regarding the relevant topic in an authentic way. These are not quotes that I have simply copy and pasted from Google.

I have directly written down most of the quotes presented in this book, after spending countless hours diving deep into the lesser-known archives of footage on Floyd.

There will also be Champ-Tips throughout the book. These are practical tips based on what Mayweather did to excel, and are presented in a way that you can directly practice in your life and career. Boxing is a beautiful sport, and the greatest gift it gives is the opportunity to grow. This book is a tool designed to aid that growth. It is designed to make the road to success clearer.

The greatness that was within Mayweather lives in all of us in some way. Having the right experiences was what allowed Mayweather to access it. I believe that it is a crime to live a life without having done what you can to access that inner greatness. So, as you read The Floyd Mayweather Mind keep that in mind - you can be just as successful as he was in your own way.
