Chapter 1
AN OPEN LETTER TO THE REMNANT

So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.

ROMANS 11:5, NIV

DEAR REMNANT,

This is your moment to rise up and make your mark. Destiny is at your door, and it wants to know what history will say about you. Please realize your freedom requires a response. Are you up for the challenge to prove God right and the devil wrong?

The remnant has decided that, at all costs, they will not allow the next generation to speak of the last generation as a group that didnt want to see Gods glory.

I am calling you out. Thats right! Thats what an open letter is created to do. I am here to remind you that youyes, youare an open letter to the world. Psalm 139:16 says, Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, the days of my life all prepared before Id even lived one day. God has laid out your days. You must understand this is your now moment.

Do you realize youre not here by chance? God planned you out! He has written the chapters of your life. He has created a voice in you that must be used. You are the voice of truth to a deceived world where confusion and lost purpose reign. You are not an accident or a mistakeGod doesnt make mistakes. God takes the ones the world calls nobodies and declares that they are somebodies:

Hosea put it well: Ill call nobodies and make them somebodies; Ill call the unloved and make them beloved. In the place where they yelled out, Youre nobody! theyre calling you Gods living children.

ROMANS 9:2526

You were not created to just occupy a space but rather to invade this world with the good news. Could it be possible that by the time you finish this book, you will realize this is your now moment? You are a letter to the world. Thats right! God chose you as His letter:

You yourselves are all the endorsement we need. Your very lives are a letter that anyone can read by just looking at you. Christ himself wrote itnot with ink, but with Gods living Spirit; not chiseled into stone, but carved into human livesand we publish it.

2 CORINTHIANS 3:23

Spiritual leaders have written open letters throughout history in the hopes that those letters would awaken a nation. Evangelist Billy Graham published one such open letter to America on July 24, 2012, titled My Heart Aches for America. In it he said:

Just a few weeks ago in a prominent city in the South, Christian chaplains who serve the police department were ordered to no longer mention the Name of Jesus in prayer. It was reported that during a recent police-sponsored event, the only person allowed to pray was someone who addressed the being in the room. Similar scenarios are now commonplace in towns across America. Our society strives to avoid any possibility of offending anyoneexcept God. Yet the farther we get from God, the more the world spirals out of control. My heart aches for America and its deceived people. The wonderful news is that our Lord is a God of mercy, and He responds to repentance. In Jonahs day, Nineveh was the lone world superpowerwealthy, unconcerned, and self-centered. When the Prophet Jonah finally traveled to Nineveh and proclaimed Gods warning, people heard and repented. I believe the same thing can happen once again, this time in our nation.

I believe the time is now for the awakening of a generation, just as Billy Graham wrote in his letter, and let me tell you why I believe this. On February 10, 2012, I was in Modesto, California, speaking at the Ammunition Youth Conference. That night a powerful voice in my life, evangelist Reinhard Bonnke, declared to me, Pat, we must get a generation filled with the Spirit. We must see a generation rise up like no other has ever seen to lead the outpouring that is coming!

I felt so challenged at that moment, and I began to pray God would show me how this monumental task could be achieved. Pastor Bonnke also told me how God will periodically take him to heaven in his dreams and speak with him. From that night forward I began to pray for prophetic dreams to happen in my life.

I do not dream very often, and when I do, I rarely remember details. But late one night in October 2012 I had a very powerful prophetic dream, and this time my ability to remember my dream was profoundly different. I remembered so many intricate details.

In the dream I found myself sitting in an old diner at a table surrounded by great leaders in our nation, including Reinhard Bonnke. As we sat in this old diner together, I noticed in front of us on the table a very old radio with large dials. I began to turn the knobs, and when I landed upon a live station, the knobs would light up. I noticed we were all laughing and crying as I turned each channel on the radio because we could hear reports of outpourings of God in cities and towns across the world. The announcer would say things like, There is an outpouring of God in San Antonio! I would quickly turn the dial to the next station only to hear, There is another outbreak in New York City!

It felt as if the dream went on all night, and we heard the reports on the radio from cities all across the nation. We listened to reports from all over the world of God pouring out His Spirit and our nation being drawn back to Him.

I awakened to find myself weeping and crying out to God. I looked at the clock, expecting it to be around 5:00 a.m., but it was exactly midnight. I jumped out of bed, and my wife, Karen, was awakened by my stirring and asked if everything was OK.

Karen, the move of God is coming, I told her. I just saw it in a dream!

I ran upstairs and wrote Reinhard Bonnke an e-mail, telling him what I had dreamed. I was amazed when he responded a short time later, saying, I also sense in my spirit that Gods time for America is about to break upon us!

So let me ask you this: Could it be that all God needs to awaken our nation is a remnant to carry out His plan? I believe that is, indeed, all He needs.

One of my heroes of the faith, pastor David Wilkerson, once penned a powerful devotional about Gods use of a remnant to accomplish His plansand especially Gods plan to use a remnant in the end times. Here are a few words from that devotional:

All the prophets saw the end times and prophesied of the gathering of a separated, holy people who would have great understanding in the Word of the Lord. Daniel heard great things from God but understood not (Daniel 12:8). However, he saw a day coming when a purified, tried and tested remnant would understand; there would be a last-day company full of wisdom and discernment in the things of God. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand (Daniel 12:10).

Are you wondering by now what a remnant is? Ill go into greater detail about this in the next chapter, but for now let me tell you how John Michael Talbot, one of the founding fathers of contemporary Christian music, defined it when speaking to me one day. Today Talbot is a charismatic Catholic leader who feels called to bring Holy Spirit encounters to the Catholic Church, and when I asked him his definition of remnant, he said, Remnantits the people who dont just practice the externals of their faith, but its the people who know Jesus.
