Introduction
A ngels are beings of light. The word angel comes from the Greek word angelos , which means messenger. This is because the main task of angels is to carry messages to and from God. Angels also provide help and comfort whenever necessary.
As angels are believed to have been created on the second day of Creation, its not surprising that angels predate history. Many primitive religions believed in beings that were able to cross from the physi c al world to the kingdom of the gods. Zoroastrianism, the religion founded by the Persian prophet Zoroaster (sixth century bce ) contained a form of angel known as amesha spentas , the holy immortals.
The angels of Judaism came originally from the cosmology created by Zoroaster and, later on, Christian angels were based on the Hebrew tradition. Still later, the Christian and Jewish angels had an influence in the angelology of Islam.
Angels are mentioned on numerous occasions in the religious books of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In fact, many of the most important occurrences in all of these faiths took place with the help of angels. These religions have differing views on the nature and duties of angels, but they all implicitly accept the reality of them.
However, throughout history there have also been people who have refused to accept the possibility of angels. One person who thought a great deal about the subject was Alfred Russel Wallace (18231913), the Welsh naturalist, who devised a theory of evolution by natural selection that was published at the same time as that of Charles Darwin. He wrote: If, as I contend, we are forced to the assumption of an infinite God... it seems only logical to assume that the vast, the infinite chasm be tween ourselves and the Deity is to some extent occupied by an almost infinite series of grades of beings, each successive grade having higher and higher powers in regard to the origination, the development, and the control of the universe.
This is a logical argument, as every organization of any size has a hierarchical structure. Its not too far-fetched to believe a similar structurea hierarchy of angelsis maintaining the entire universe.
Only a few years ago, people were embarrassed to talk about angels. In 1943, when Dr. Mortimer Adler wanted to include an article on angels in a proposed book on the great ideas of Western civilization, he received strong opposition from his editorial committee. Fortunately, he persisted, and the article was included. In 1975, when Billy Grahams book Angels: Gods Secret Agents appeared, it was one of the few books available on the subject. Today there are hundreds, reflecting peoples renewed interest in this ancient topic.
It is also possible that angels have started taking a more active interest in mankind, too. I hope this is the case, as we need them more than ever in the world we live in today.
There is no doubt that you can communicate with angels. The more open you are to the possibility of angelic contact, the more likely you will be to experience the joy and exhilaration of these remarkable manifestations. You need to be alert, open, and ready to experience angelic contact.
The best way to approach this book is to read it through first, deciding on the topics that interest you most. Work with these first, and after you have achieved some success with them, move on to explore some of the other chapters. Everyone is different, and subjects that fascinate you will not necessarily appeal to someone else. Start by performing the rituals in the way I have described them, but then use your intuition to change anything you feel necessary to make the rituals entirely your own. By doing so, you will develop in your own way and may make discoveries that help other people establish their own personal connections with the angels.
Over the years, I have seen the astonishing results people have achieved by communicating with angels through ritual and prayer, and I hope this book will help you, too, to establish a relationship with God through His angels.
