Hells Illusion: summary, description and annotation

Hell, is a place that is depicted as eternal conscious torment for all people, other than those who have done specific requirements to escape this eternal, blazing inferno. Yet, God is unconditional love, and Christ came to set us free, so logically and realistically, how can we be set free if we are plagued mentally with the idea of eternal conscious torment in a place called Hell? God tells us through the Scriptures that He has no conditions on His love for all humanity, yet at the same time, the church tells us that we need to do certain things or else pay the Hellfire price. Fear can not reside in love, so how can such a fear dominated place called Hell ever exist in God as the church over the years has portrayed? In this book, Don Keathley, who is a leading grace teacher with over 40 years of pastoral experience and a PhD degree, will expose the lies about Hell, which has been taught to us by the church. He has investigated all the words that Jesus spoke where He used the word Hell and presents to you all the correct original Greek meanings, context, and references for each time the word Hell is mentioned in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Once you understand what the correct meaning is, then the understanding about Hell that you hold will disappear into the illusion that it really is, and as Gods truth can only do, it will set you free. God is love and in Him resides no fear and no evil. You and your loved ones only have one eternal destination.

I want to express and thank with my deepest appreciation to all those who have gone before me, who without them this book might not have been possible. There is no achievement in life that is without the help of many people that have come into my life, and who have opened up the discussion about the myth of eternal conscious torment.

I am especially indebted to Julie Ferwerda, who is the author of Raising Hell and Gerry

Beauchemin, the author of Hope Beyond Hell . They have challenged me to examine my traditional belief on Hell and to study this out for myself, for which I am forever grateful.

I am thankful to all the people who join with me at the Digital Cathedral and Don Keathley Ministries for all their continued support and encouragement.

God Bless you,

Don Keathley

Taking away the belief in Hell, has helped me fearlessly pursue truth. A little over a year ago, my friend said that if I studied the Greek, I would know that Hell didnt exist. I was afraid to check into it because of the loss of friendship and possibly going to Hell. Lol. It seemed like a slippery slope. A few months later, I asked her for some information, and she sent the links to Hells Illusion. I cannot even express the freedom that came from those teachings. It never really sat well with me that a loving God would torture people with an everlasting punishment. I just swallowed the Kool-Aid with everyone around me.

Thank you, Don Keathley, for what you do!! I am a life changed.

From the time I was a little girl, I was told that Hell existed. I was warned that I could go there for not praying a prayer of salvation, so I prayed the prayer. I was told that I could grow lukewarm and still go to Hell, so I started getting worried every night that I wasnt as close to God as I should be, and I would go to my parents and cry because I was so afraid. They would create a new prayer and pray it with me, but I still was uncertain about my eternal destination. This went on for several years, and I even had nightmares about Hell. I was so tormented that even as an adult, I had a few breakdowns where I was worried that I was going to go to Hell for not reading my Bible enough. As Ive since started learning about grace and that its not about my efforts, but Christs to save me, the doctrine of Hell again surfaced. But this time, something just didnt add up, though I didnt have much information. Pastor Dons series on Hells Illusion is like nothing Ive ever heard before! It literally was the first time I had heard what the words (translated as Hell) actually mean! Don is very courageous to tackle such a hot and heavy issue. I, like many others, am relieved to know what these words really mean. Its a big sigh of relief to know the truth now!

I was struggling with Hell being real or not. I was attending church at the time and had heard a couple of views of Hell not being real. I went to my Pastor and told him what I had heard and that I had been studying it and if it was or wasnt true. He gave me a two-hour lecture without listening to a single thing I said. He had me almost convinced that it was. A couple of days later, I stumbled upon Dons Hells Illusion teachings. I listened to all of them twice, and it sent me into revelation and a history study. I got into Greek and Hebrew translations and found my truth of Hell not being a real place. This teaching changed me, and it changed how I read and study Scripture. It was a necessary piece of the puzzle in the transformation for me to move into Sonship.

In modern culture, just to bring up the subject of hell is often all it takes to ignite a vigorous discussion and debate. The views youre likely to hear range from the old-school interpretation of infernalism to a modern insistence on annihilationism or universalism. Some believe hell is retributive and others believe it is restorative. Some dont believe in hell at all. Never one to shirk from provocative topics, Don Keathley brings Hells Illusion to the reader in a way that is sure to stimulate thought and discussion among those who read it. This book is about to take you to a place where you may start to rethink what you have believed. You may even find that some of what youve thought was a sacred doctrine has actually been nothing more than a sacred cow. If youve only considered the viewpoint you were likely taught in church, fasten your seatbelt because youre in for quite a ride.

There may not be a more divisive theological assertion than the doctrine of hell as a place of punishment and eternal conscious torment. Yet, this theological doctrine is deeply misunderstood by so many. Untold numbers of people have been grievously wounded by the threat of hell. Fear, anxiety, stress, condemnation, a sense of futility, and strife are all fruits of this misunderstanding, causing way too many to abandon relationship with God. In this book Don Keathley goes directly to the heart of the issue by bringing a thorough and scholarly analysis of the doctrine and the errors that have been used as its foundation.

Dons heart is to give you the understanding and skills necessary to look past the misunderstanding of hell and to see the heart of the Father, who loves you totally, completely, and unconditionally. The Apostle Paul tells us that it is for freedom that Christ has set us free (Gal. 5:1 ESV). This book provides a road map to a greater place of peace and joy. As you read through it, know that the truth it contains will reveal a greater level of the freedom that Christ has for you.
