Most parents want to childproof the world around their childrenthey make their kids extra-sensitive to apparent dangers. While some lose the inhibitions as they grow, some hold on to these fears that become ingrained as part of their personalities. Our response to suspected risks, thus, becomes measured. You see, trying a new vocation or switching to a new one requires a consideration of risk. Depending on how we have been programmed to respond to uncertain situations, we calculate the risks and venture or dont ventureinto adventurous vocations.
Now is the time to first recognise what programmes we are running on, and then uninstall the beliefs and set of self-restrictions that are notworking for us.
The conscious mind represents our personal identityit is the source of our creativity. It has the power to disconnect from the present moment as it solves our problems in the head, thus, enabling us to even envision our future in a manner that we desire. In its creative capacity, the conscious mind holds our wishes, desires and aspirations.
However, the crux of truly understanding the self is thisthe learned instincts, beliefs and experiences become ingrained as software programmes in our subconscious mind. Thats why each memory of our childhood holds a lot of answers to why we are the way we are today, and it cannot be ignored in this extremely important taskthe self-work that we are going to do with this book. We are going to uncover the tools and gifts that you hold inside you to bedazzlethose around you. As an example, lets assume, as a child you were repeatedly told that you are not good at somethingit could be one of the subjects that you constantly fared below average or a sports activity you couldnt perform up to the expectations of those around you. Such messages get programmed in your subconscious mind and could potentially undermine your best conscious efforts to change those particular aspects of your life. Its a fact that such programmes acquired by our subconscious mind while growing up shape 95 per cent or more of our life experiences.
Think about the time when you chose one particular brand of tea over others available in the supermarket. When you decided to pick one kind of t-shirt over the others. When you chose to pick this book over another in the bookstore. The number of decisions that we take every single day are not consciously taken; in fact, only 5 per cent of our average daily decisions are taken consciously. These decisions are evidence of our subconscious mind at work, influencing our choices all the time.
So, what happens in the subconscious? Our subconscious mind is constantly reading and receiving messages about people and things around usthis is why marketing works. If you see the pop-up ad of the same product three times on your phone or television, you are bound to find the brand familiar the next time you see it in the supermarket.
