Dwayne entered the professional wrestling business, as a third-generation superstar, following the footsteps of his grandfather and his father. However, despite his hard work and dedication to the business, he was rejected by the audience.

Going back to the drawing board and another round of soul searching, The Rock recreated himself and soon became one of the biggest stars in the history of professional wrestling. He won multiple championships, headlined the biggest wrestling events, and had incredible matches that will go down in history. In other words, he had it all.

However, his heart was yearning for a new challenge.
At the height of his popularity, The Rock had a new quest in front of him. He wanted to conquer the movie industry and become the household name and the biggest box-office star in Hollywood.

Soon after arriving, he realized that Hollywood has a completely different set of rules. Just because he was the most successful wrestler in his previous life, in the ruthless business of Hollywood, you have to start from scratch. Regardless of who you were, in Hollywood, you are nothing more than a cog in well-oiled machinery.

It took him a while, as he was trying to conform to the mold Hollywood demanded from him. However, Dwayne The Rock Johnson tapped into something no actor has before him. He relied on his personal connection with his fans, as well as his wrestling audience and he became the hottest guy in Hollywood.

More than that, The Rock went from an actor to an enterprise. He did so with style, kindness, and his trademark flashy smile.

In this book, we will dig deeper into his ups and downs as we deconstruct his massive success.

The tale of Dwayne The Rock Johnson is one of dedication, grit and good old hard work. His father, Rocky Johnson, was a professional wrestler, and the family was constantly moving from state to state, as Rocky took on bouts wherever he could find work.

The family of three was moving from state to state, and in fact, while young Dwayne was in his formative years, they moved around quite a bit. By the time Dwayne was a teenager, the family has live in 38 out of 50 states. His father was a hard-working disciplined professional, and he made sure that his son follows the same model, regardless of what he chose to do when he grows up.

Rocky was an old-school guy who taught Dwayne that respect will be given when its earned and that he has to earn it every day.

Rocky was getting up every day between 5:30 and 6:00 Am, and he would wake up his 5-year-old son to make him company in the gym.

Dwayne regularly accompanied his father to the gym and by the age of 13, he started lifting weights. Surrounded by big men at such a young age, this is where the Rock learned about the hard work and discipline, the exact ingredients needed to build massive and muscular bodies. As a matter of fact, being big and muscular was the requirement and part of a job description for a wrestler.

By the age of 8, Dwayne has already tried various sports including baseball, soccer, martial arts, and gymnastics. What he really wanted to do was lifting weights. He had to wait for a few years before his wish came true.

When Dwayne was 13, his dad took him to the first workout. The love affair with the iron was born. To this day, he hits the gym every morning at 4:00 in the morning, an hour after he wakes up. However, before we get to the present day, we need to address Dwaynes problematic teenage years.

Due to the unique nature of his work, Rocky Johnson was absent during most of Dwaynes formative and adolescent years. Being a professional wrestler in the 70s and 80s was extremely difficult. The job wasnt guaranteed, and a wrestler had to hustle to make ends meet. Usually, a pro-wrestler is on the road for around 300 days per year, away from their families as they travel all around the country.

Life without a father left Dwayne directionless. The family was struggling financially as they were living paycheck to paycheck.

In 1986, The Johnson family was living in Hawaii. Dwayne was 14 at the time, and one day, as he and his mother were walking to their home, there was an eviction notice along with a lock on the door. Overnight, the family became homeless and they had to go back to the States.

Right then and there, young Dwayne decided he never wants to be in a helpless situation again. He decided to become somebody as he thought the way of going about it was to build a massive body. He wanted to put himself in a situation where he could control the outcome of his life. Seeing the eviction notice and the lock on the door left a permanent scar on Dwayne.

Moreover, from that moment he went into the world with a chip on his shoulder.

Although Dwayne already fell in love with weightlifting, from that day he became even more intense with his workout regimen.

When he was 15, Dwayne was arrested for check fraud. Prior to that, he was already arrested for theft and multiple fights. His parents were called to the station to pick up their son, and at that moment, Dwayne realized that despite the difficult situation the family was in, he was the biggest source of stress in their lives.

Although he decided to change his ways, it wasnt an easy road for the young Dwayne.

About a year later, Dwayne joined Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. A few weeks later, an incident with a professor changed the course of Dwaynes life forever.

One afternoon, Dwayne had to go to the bathroom. However, instead of using the boys bathroom, he decided to go to the teachers lounge. Just as he was about the leave, a teacher confronted him and asked him to leave.

Dwayne, who was already a 64 and weighing around 220 pounds, refused to leave and instead he intimidated the teacher. By his own admission, he couldnt sleep that night as he felt he did a wrong thing.

The next day, Dwayne found the teacher and apologized for his behavior. It was evident that the young Dwayne deeply regretted his action as he extended his hand to the teacher.

The teacher who turned out to be the high school football coach looked past the rough and tough image of the huge but confused kid. Jody Swick, a highschool football coach, looked straight into Dwaynes soul, recognized the potential and decided to give him a second chance.
