About the Authors

Frater U D is a writer, poet, and magician. A German diplomats child, he grew up in Africa and Asia. He holds a masters degree in comparative literature, English literature, and Portuguese studies from the University of Bonn, and is co-founder of the Bonn Workshop for Experimental Magic. Founder of pragmatic magic, ice magic and co-founder of the Magical Pact of the Illuminati of Thanateros (IOT), he is one of Europes most renowned practical magicians and contemporary occult authors. He studied with yoga and tantra masters and has been involved with the practical aspects of occultism in general and magic in particular for more than half a century. He has many years of experience as a translator and interpreter and is the author of more than forty books, many of which have become modern-day classics, including High Magic and Practical Sigil Magic . His works have been translated into many languages, including English, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Czech, Estonian, and Japanese. He is known for his undogmatic approach to the black arts and has translated works by Peter Carroll and Ramsey Dukes, as well as Aleister Crowleys Book of Lies , among others.

Axel Bdenbender was born the son of two teachers. He attended a convent boarding school and has been a devoted fan of Pan since very early on. He worked for several years as a street theater actor. Trained as a nurse, Axel has worked in the fields of neurology and psychiatry, in homes for seniors, and in a hospital for those with lung cancer and tuberculosis. While living in an apartment-sharing community, he immediately furnished his entire room as a magical temple. For several years he lived in seclusion in a remote forest house, pursuing his magical studies. He is a founding member of the Bonn Workshop for Experimental Magic and was a temporary member of the O.T.O. He lives in Bonn, Germany.

Harry Eilenstein is a highly prolific writer, life coach, and magician. He was trained by Catholic nuns as an embroiderer, studied Egyptology, astronomy, and ballet dancing, and is a gifted amateur goldsmith. He has also penned a veritable libraryover 130 bookson a wide variety of subjects. His series on Germanic and Norse gods alone comprises some 88 volumes. He is regarded by his colleagues as one of the most productive thinkers of contemporary magic. Whether Kabbalah, ancient Egyptian magic, Tantrism, Eastern and Dakota traditions, or the mythologies, religions, and mystery schools of the entire world, there is hardly a subject he has not explored in depth, always paying attention to its practical applications. He is a founding member of the Bonn Workshop for Experimental Magic.

Josef Knecht studied humanities and ancient languages at the University of Bonn, Germany, in the 1980s, where he was a founding member of the Bonn Workshop for Experimental Magic. In addition to research work and publications in the humanities, he has long been involved in investigating methods of alternative medicine. Today, Knecht lives as an author and blogger in a small town in southern Germany.

In Memoriam

Josef Knecht

Losing a close friend, a reliable colleague, an intellectual sparring partner, a confidant of more than forty years, and a loyal comrade-in-arms is always a harrowing experience. The more so if it is someone with whom you have shared for decades the ritual magic circle, the invocation of deities, the evocation of demonic spirits, the wild dance and ecstatic songs of Pan and Hecate, the juggling of the elemental forces of Fire, Earth, Air and Water, the charging of talismans and amulets, the visions and insights of divination, the discovery of processes and laws governing sublunar and cosmic life, the intuition and gnosis of trance work and revelationin short, all the vagaries and successes, the issues and triumphs, the light and the darkness of a magicians life. Only a very few shared human experiences could be of a more intimate nature.

It is therefore with the deepest regret that we announce the demise of our dear friend, coauthor and staunch ally Josef Knecht, who, as the Bard was wont to put it, shuffled off this mortal coil before the English edition of our book finally saw the light of day. His ready wit and intellectual prowess, his erudition and critical faculty, his sense of humor, his open-mindedness and uncompromising honesty, his indefatigable love for humanity, and his ever-open huge, kind heart made him a partner second to none and a privilege to know. He will not be forgotten.
