Prologue I
When the artist paints a painting, you can look at it and say, Ah, the artist was in a certain frame of mind, or, Look at the dull colors and the dreary landscape, or, Look at the wild colors and the fantastic forms, or, See, there is no form, and yet there is marvelous vitality. And so are each of you artists, and you create the world that you know. And when you look at the world, you know that you can say, Look, this is what I have created. And if you do not like what you see, then there is no point in ripping apart the painting, or ripping apart the framework of your life. Instead, you change your pigments. And in this case, your pigments are your thoughts and your imagination. And then you change your painting .

Before introducing this book, I would like to tell you a real story that happened some years ago. This tale is about a medic called Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len who is a well-renowned Hawaiian psychologist. At first when I read about this, I thought that the whole story was fabricated or it was just a popular legend. Nevertheless I progressively discovered that the entire story was true.
In the past Dr. Len began working at the forensic unit of a mental hospital in Hawaii, more specifically in the psychiatric department. The ward in which Dr. Len worked was full of mentally ill criminals. Many people imprisoned wore restraints on their wrists or ankles, and were kept in total seclusion.
When Dr. Len arrived at the hospital for the first time, he was informed that some patients had attacked other people. Some members of the personnel working there quit their jobs because they truly believed it was very dangerous. Before starting work, Dr. Len clearly stated that when working there he wanted to apply his special methodology to deal with the inmates.
When working at the hospital Dr. Len used a non-traditional method over many months in a silent but disciplined manner. At the ward, he became well known for having cured many inmates. When he was asked about this, Dr. Len admitted that he never saw the prisoners personally. Dr. Len never prescribed any medication either. The question that you must be surely asking yourself is: How did Dr. Len cure those inmates if he did not even have any direct contact with them?
In an interview Dr. Len commented that one of the things he did over the months when working at his post was to look at the patients medical records. He also commented that every working day while he was reading the inmates files he asked himself: What is going on in me that I manifest this? He posed that question to himself in order to know which dark traits (or negative emotions, such as revenge, hatred, etc.) were going on in his life which made him responsible for manifesting those dangerous people in the ward.
From this particular perspective, Dr. Len considered that he was personally responsible for everything going on in his life, even the current state of the inmates. He also said that he continually said these phrases: I am sorry, I love you, Please forgive me and Thank you. These four sentences are related to an ancient Hawaiian technique called Hooponopono. He explained that the continual repetition of those sentences has a healing effect. With the repetition of these four phrases Dr. Len said that he was cleaning his own subconscious negative memories, which implied his detrimental judgments, attitudes and beliefs about those prisoners. As Dr. Len used this special technique most of the inmates became progressively cured.
Over time, when Dr. Len was working at the ward, the prisoners were unshackled and some new in-ward and off-ward activities were introduced in that workplace. As he continued using this special technique the staff working at the prison could hold medical conversations with the inmates safely, something unimaginable in the past.
Questions you might be asking yourself right now are: How could this happen?, Did Dr. Len use a kind of magic? or How did Dr. Len, by repeating these four sentences (I am sorry, I love you, Please forgive me, Thank you), cure these inmates? When asked about this, this professional said that he had subconscious memories which were shared with these prisoners. These inmates turned up in his life because his own subconscious memories manifested that situation.
Dr. Len explained that, by repeating the Hooponoponos words ( I am sorry, Please forgive me, I love you and Thank you ), he progressively cleaned his own negative subconscious mind of past data, which included the memories connecting him with those perilous inmates. As a consequence, most of the inmates recovered completely.
After a while, the entire prison was closed down because it became totally unnecessary. This story might appear difficult to believe. Nonetheless, all over this book you will see that the cleaning technique used by Dr. Len is extremely powerful because it is very real.
Prologue II
Hooponopono is a simple way to arriving at unity, inner space and returning to harmony. Hooponopono implies solving a problem from the ground up and applying the solution to useful ends. It expresses the deep need to live once again in harmony with oneself and with humanity, nature and God .

With the upsurge of the New Age trend, there are several techniques, some of them widely promoted, that you can use for your personal evolution. These worthy instruments can help you to improve your life in different dimensions such as prosperity, health, relationships, career, and others.
You might have tried some of these tools (for example: visualization, affirmations, etc.), and at least temporarily benefited from them. However, you might also have had some doubts about the real scope and duration of the positive effects of these very methods. You could also have felt that most of these tools seem to deal only with the consequences of your difficulties, and not with their causes.
