Words from the Author
If youre ready to tap away trauma, relieve emotional distress and offer loving self-affirmations to improve your health and well-being, then this is the book for you.
I want to add that this Handbook covers just the basics of EFT. Its designed to help you get started on your way to wellness and a more fulfilling life. For many people, this type of self-help is enough. However, some of you will struggle to concentrate or get to the heart of what ails you. I urge you not to give up.
When I first began tapping, my affirmations were much too vague. It took a long time for me to realize I needed to be far more specific and thats when I began to see results.
You may find it worthwhile to seek help from a qualified practitioner. Dont worry that there is no-one in your immediate area. You can find experts who will work with you through Skype or by video-conferencing. Take a look at thetappingsolution.com, or do a general online search. Just remember to check credentials and references.
Wishing you the best of health and much happiness!

1. What is EFT?
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) draws from a variety of alternative medicine and acupuncture/acupressure practices, energy medicine, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) and, a forerunner of EFT, Thought Field Therapy. An individual can perform EFT alone, with therapeutic support or in a workshop.
In an EFT session, an individual deeply thinks about a certain issue and taps on some of the bodys energy meridians originally identified and mapped by ancient Chinese healers and acupuncturists. EFT therapists say that a practitioner may use these meridians to treat and resolve many psychological or physical ailments by reaching deep energetic emotional levels. As such, EFT facilitates the individuals interaction between the body-mind and energy pathways. Many proponents say that, when traditional medical and psychological practices fail, EFT can work.
How EFT differs from acupuncture:
Western medicine focuses upon the bodys complicated chemistry and genetic networks rather than its energetic system.
Though EFT uses acupunctures meridian system, it does not use acupuncture needles. Chinese medicine discovered the presence of the energy meridians almost 5,000 years ago, according to Steven K. H. Aung and William Pai-Dei Chen (Clinical Introduction to Medical Acupuncture). The meridians function like sophisticated electric circuits throughout the body. This circuitry
system, like the nervous system, communicates information about the bodys health.
Acupuncture uses more than 300 meridians on the body and associates energy pathways to the bodys organ systems, such as kidney, liver, spleen, or stomach. The meridians in Chinese acupuncture also align with emotions, such as sadness, anger or fear. Although EFT says the knowledge of ancient Chinese wisdom is valid, EFT uses only a fraction of the meridians to achieve results. For that reason, EFT is much easier to learn than acupuncture.
EFT Basic Recipe:
At the start of an EFT session, the individual focuses on whatever is most concerning to him. He may think about emotional, physical, or performance issues and fix these in his mind. Then, he uses fingers to tape on the relevant energy meridians to stimulate them. Many EFT users report highly accelerated results, especially when compared to traditional therapy methods. Because no special devices or implements are needed, after the individual learns the tapping techniques, he may use EFT any time or any place. Learning the basic two-step method for EFT is called The Basic Recipe.
The human energy body:
Science understands that the human body takes in, processes and emits energy. It is electric! The bodys energy field is discernable by medical equipment, such as EEG (electroencephalograph) and electrocardiograph (EKG) machines, and by almost every human on a subconscious level. Individuals cannot usually see anothers energy but certainly encounter the energy of another person or persons every day.
Rupert Sheldrake (Seven Experiments That Could Change the World) recommends some easy experiments that everyone can perform in this regard. For example, when taking a drive, look into the car of another driver. That individual invariably senses engagement and turns towards the viewer. Static electricity is another example of the bodys energy field interacting with the environment. In a dark room, it is sometimes possible to see electricity jumping from a fingertip or toe. Of course, the bodys nervous system transmits information from its appendages to the brain. Sensing pain is a good example of electricity coursing through the nervous system. Sensing pain is almost instantaneous because the energy travels at the speed of electricity and light.
Traditional medicines study of energy medicine:
In recent years, many thoughtful people have explored what unconventional therapies, such as acupuncture and energy medicine. As a result, mainstream elite researchers at Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Stanford have explored alternative medicine and healing strategies.
Most traditional research and researchers do not completely embrace therapies like EFT. However, research published by the Journal of Clinical Psychology (a peer-reviewed publication), and a replicated study performed by Drs. Harvey Baker and Linda Siegel at Queens College, New York, reported EFTs efficacy. The 2003 study by S. Wells, P. Polglase, H.B. Andrews, P. Carrington, H.A. Baker (Evaluation of a meridian-based intervention, emotional freedom techniques/EFT), four out of five comparisons (relating to relief from phobias, using guided deep breathing and EFT) showed that (via subjective reports and lowered pulse rates) EFT outperformed traditional therapies.
