Dedicated to the beloved Gurudeva Paramahansa Yogananda. May your light shine forever, and may it work through this book to help reach truth-seeking hearts. There are no words to express the infinite love and gratitude I have for you.
And to you, dear reader. If you are reading this right now, you are one of the truth-seekers. May this book help to illuminate the truth of who you really are.
You realize that all along, there was something tremendous within you, and you did not know it.
Paramahansa Yogananda
DISCOVERING THE PATH
You are more than you think you are.
Those words can be challenging to hear. I know that firsthand, because I struggled with hearing them come out of my mothers mouth when I was growing up. I didnt believe them. In fact, I felt the oppositethat I was less, not more.
Like most young girls, and people in general really, I struggled with my self-esteem, doubted my intelligence, questioned my capabilities, and always wondered whether or not someone could love me. I carried a heaviness with me wherever I went. I felt anxious, I didnt sleep well, and I certainly didnt feel any sort of peace within myself. Nope, I was a bundle of nerves, spending a lot of my time focusing on my appearance, achievements, and what other people thought of me. All of this was pretty debilitating, to say the least.
But that all began to change one day when I entered a small bookstore in Rishikesh, India, when I was in my early 20s.
I had been backpacking for over two years at that pointpart of a post-college journey to see and experience different cultures before jumping into the real world of work and responsibilities. Ultimately, that trip would span about three years and cover more than 50 countries. As you might imagine, I wanted to stay out of the real world as long as possible!
