D edication
To my wife Sue, without whose many contributions, support, and partnership I would be able to accomplish nothing. I am completely assured both that apart from the Lord Jesus Christ I can do nothing (Jn 15.5) and that my full confidence in Sue Richie is well placed (Prov. 31.11). Thank you for everything, Sweetheart. I love you!

Obviously, no book comes into being entirely as the result of the labors of one person. I am grateful to CPT Press, especially Chris Thomas and Lee Roy Martin, for their invitation to write this book and for their encouragement and expertise throughout the writing process without which this book would not have become a reality. I am deeply indebted to President Steven Jack Land and the faculty of the Pentecostal Theological Seminary for providing an environment conducive for spiritual transformation and intellectual stimulation, including many engaging conversations through which I have learned much from many, first as a student and later as a faculty member, especially Jackie David Johns. I am particularly grateful for the commitment of Sang-Ehil Han, Vice President for Academics, to provide venues for Pentecostals to engage in academic conversation on Christian theology of religions and dialogue with neighbors living together in a multi-faith world, and for the enlightening personal conversations I have enjoyed having with him on this topic. Special thanks are owed to Lee University systematic theology professor Christopher Crip Stephenson who provided critical reading and creative input on Chapters 5 through 7. Wide-open discussions with students in my theology of religions class at PTS during the Fall semester of 2012, especially Chris Brewer, David Johnson, Kevin Snider, and Dennis Purvis, have directly influenced key portions of this monograph, especially Chapter 1. The prayers, support, and friendship of the good people of New Harvest Church of God in Knoxville, Tennessee, where Sue and I have been blessed to serve as senior pastors for fifteen years, as of this writing, have been crucial. While the aforementioned persons, along with others too numerous to mention, have been particularly helpful in producing this book, I own up to whatever imperfections it may (and does, I am sure, in fact) contain as my own responsibility.

Many years ago, before becoming president of Pentecostal The ological Seminary, Pentecostal theologian Steven Jack Land wrote in the inaugural issue of what has since become a major publishing venue, the Journal of Pentecostal Theology , that Theology is concerned with the relations between God and creation, and Pentecostal theology conceives that relation to be a living dynamic, requiring discerning reflection or discursive reasoning that is gifted by and attuned to the things of the Spirit. The present volume is written with that astute observation firmly in mind. Among other things, this statement suggests that Pentecostal theology is not merely theoretical; it involves the living out of faith in everyday life. For another, it implies that matters which profoundly affect everyday life in this world should receive sustained theological attention by Pentecostals. In this case, a pressing topic of contemporary lived reality requiring Spirit-gifted and Spirit-attuned reflection and reasoning is Pentecostal theology of religions. Accordingly, that is the thrust of this volume. It is offered in the hopeful prayer that the Holy Spirit will indeed anoint it for the glory of God.
