Foreword

William R. Mistele

A man wrote to me and said, You write about the beauty and magic of water in nature. But when I sit next to the ocean, I feel nothing. The ocean treats me as if I am a desert or a wasteland.

I wrote back and said, It is the same for me. I am from a line of fathers who were combustion engineers and who sold coal and oil to heat homes. Sensitivity, empathy, and receptivity were never part of their psychological profile. Consequently, for years I had to either meditate on water or write a poem about the sea in order to feel connected.

As a spiritual anthropologist, I have studied with over fifty masters from many traditions. But none of them had the vibration of water in their auras. After decades of various exercises, I have discovered what works for me. If I meditate on the water content of my blood as it f lows through my body, I then feel connected to the water element from within. Whether in my body or in nature, water has the same soothing, purifying, healing, and nurturing qualities. The seas, rivers, and streams now feel part of me, but to arrive at this inner awareness has been a long journey.

Decades ago, and after a great deal of training in the Hermetic tradition of Franz Bardon, I followed his instructions and contacted four mermaid queens on the astral plane. Two of them promised me that I would meet mermaids dwelling in human bodies so I could better understand their race. When I finally understood what they were saying, I placed a global casting call on a modeling website for women who could portray a mermaid on a beach. I received several immediate responses from women who embodied the water element.

My extensive interviews with them led to my posting an essay on the internet called, Traits of Mermaid Women. Now, about every two months, a woman writes to me from some part of the world. These women often say, I googled mermaid and women and found your essay. You are the first person to understand who I am. It is like you are inside my head reading my mind.

Elyrria, the author of this book, wrote to me with a similar message. After having spent at least forty hours videotaping my interviews with her, I am currently writing her biography, a novel, and a screenplay based on her life. Her voice is original and authentic. She speaks with the authority that derives from experience.

What are these merwomen like? When you are with one of them, you may notice the following: You feel as if you are out in nature in a place of peace and serenity. You are in geological time, free from the effort of maintaining a social identity. There is no anxiety, insecurity, or fear. You feel safe and caressedas if you are sitting in a stream and cool, soothing water is flowing over your skin.

And you feel you are with a person who effortlessly gives you 100 percent of her attention. She is completely receptive, responding to you in continuously new ways in each moment. You feel loved and accepted.

It is not that she believes in you. Rather, she sees you as your better selfthe person you will be when you have overcome your doubts and conflicts and solved your major problems. Because she possesses a skill known as graphic imagination, she can see and experience your future self as being real right now in this moment.

This does not arise from an act of will on her part. Since she embodies the vibration of water, she does what water itself does: she is endlessly giving, nurturing, calming, and reviving. Just being in her aura makes you feel fully alive. Put simply, in her presence you feel energized and calm, renewed and peaceful at the same time.

What is not taught in our civilization is the essence of the femininethe accepting grace, the healing power, and the all-embracing love within its magnetic and attractive energy. If our society had the knowledge mermaids do, our empathy would be vastly expanded. Inner kingdoms of feeling would be revealed to us. Our receptivity and sensitivity to impressions and our intuitive abilities would be exponentially increased.

In practical terms, this would mean we would have the ability to understand why othersanyone, anywhere on Earthfeel as they do. We would be able to perceive and also interact with their souls directly. Such love has the power to hold and contain in our hearts anyone elses life, soul, or will to heal, bring to completion, and transform them from within.

In this book, Elyrria shares a powerful visionthe oceans of the Earth are the outer expression of an inner kingdom of love. This love has no end, and it is inexhaustible. When we find this love, we will no longer perceive nature as external to ourselves. Rather, like her, we will feel united to nature at the core of our being.
