GOSPELBOUND
In our time, the most committed young evangelical Christians are often the least likely to want to use the word evangelical at all. And who can blame them? Evangelicalism has veered recklessly in recent years from tragedy to scandal to farce. The end result is often cynicism. But thats not the final word. This book offers neither spin control nor image maintenance for the evangelical tribe, but genuine hope. Evangelicalism has fallen on hard times; the gospel has not. My hope is that this book helps us wake up to find, as the old hymn says, the dungeon flamed with light.
Russell Moore , president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention
Gospelbound helps us fix our eyes on eternity while practically living Christ-centered lives in this present age. This book could not be more timely.
Ruth Chou Simons , artist, founder of gracelaced.com, and bestselling author of Beholding and Becoming and GraceLaced
The heart of the gospel is the work of God to make all things new. And the heart of Gospelbound is to breathe new life into this anxious age. Through stories both global and local, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra give us an informed, up-to-the-minute account of the transformative work Christ can do in our hearts, our churches, and our culture. Its at once a mighty wind and a gentle spring zephyr.
Mindy Belz , senior editor of World magazine and author of They Say We Are Infidels
Much of what we read about the church today is discouragingdivision and dysfunction, apathy and apostasy, moral failures of leaders and malaise among members. Have we simply become too compromised, too comfortable, and too cavalier about the worlds ills to make any real difference? Gospelbound pushes back against pessimism and defeatism with insightful commentary and inspiring stories. In these pages youll discover organizations, individuals, and families whose love for Christ is welling up and overflowing onto a world that is desperately in need of saving grace and Christlike kindness and mercy. The beauty is breathtaking.
Nancy Guthrie , author and Bible teacher
Gospelbound is the book we need right now: clear eyed about the challenges we face but joyfully insistent that the life offered to us in Jesus is our refuge and strength. Readers will be encouraged to read about faithful Christians who have discovered this in their own lives and find companions for their own pursuit of faithfulness.
Michael Wear , author of Reclaiming Hope: Lessons Learned in the Obama White House About the Future of Faith in America
In a time of intense fear and suspicion, Hansen and Zylstra turn our focus to the solid joys and lasting pleasures none but Zions children know. This book is not only filled with scriptural medicine but also applies the salve to our terrible insecurities.
Michael Horton , J. Gresham Machen Professor of Theology and Apologetics at Westminster Seminary California
Gospelbound is a true account of everyday Christians like us prevailing in hard times. We really are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37). How? By treating the living Christ as realright where we live. Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra paint the picture of that rugged faith, proving Christs faithfulness today.
Ray Ortlund , author of The Death of Porn: Men of Integrity Building a World of Nobility
I was surprised by how hard it was to put down Gospelbound. The authors have woven together up-to-the-minute stories of how God is working all around us, presenting us with a much-needed vision of life in Christ. It is both irresistibly appealing and terrifically challenging. Id like every believer under thirty to read this book.
John Yates , former pastor of the Falls Church Anglican and author of How a Man Prays for His Family
One of the best antidotes I have found for anxiety is to drink a tall glass of water. This book is a wellspring of assurance in the desert of our current dismay. Collin and Sarah take up the ancient and faithful task of telling forth the wondrous works of God through his servants. They lift our eyes and reorient us to the goodness of God. If youre thirsty for good news, here is an opportunity to drink deeply.
Jen Wilkin , author and Bible teacher

INTRODUCTION
Why Youre Anxious and Afraid
America seems to be in the midst of a full-blown panic attack, the New Republic observed in 2019. Maybe youve noticed.
The symptoms started in the late 1990shigh school students began having trouble sleeping and thinking, college students were more likely to feel overwhelmed, and adults scored higher on depression studies.
I (Collin) caught a glimpse of this anxiety spread when I asked a longtime friend about his ministry to young adults. Wed been young together ourselves, meeting at the selective, competitive university we both attended.
