ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Christmas Collectables - image 2

T here are many people that I need to thank, as each has contributed in one way or another to the writing of this book. (You know who you are.)

However my special thanks go to the following:

To my friend and fellow writer, Susan Brewer, who probably groaned every time her phone rang as she knew full well I was at the other end ready to demand yet another image. Susan, I could never have finished this book without your obsession for collecting.

Also thanks to Ann Sizemore of hometraditions, Don Black, Jerry & Darla Arnold, Kathy Martin, Alan Aldridge, David and Russell of CS Collectables, Bob Davidge, Wanda Ingham, Julie Avery and a huge thanks to Lorna Kaufman of Vectis who was a real treasure to put up with my constant stream of requests.

Huge thanks also go to my close friends Angie, Helen, Nicky and Natasha who had to put up with my Christmas stories from the middle of August! Also thanks to Su who allowed me to fill up her car in the middle of summer with all my Christmas goodies that I discovered at the boot sales.

As always, thank you mum and dad for your continued support and encouragement, even if I did snap every time you turned up for a cup of tea when I was in full flow writing the book...

And finally my biggest thanks go to Paul whom without his constant support I wouldnt be able to do what I love best for a living.

FINAL WORDS FROM TRACY
Christmas Collectables - image 3

T he first thing that I realised when I began to write this book was how much is actually involved with Christmas. I mean, I was aware of the obvious like the birth of Jesus Christ, giving of gifts and happiness to all mankind, but what I hadnt realised was just how big a category of collecting Christmas memorabilia actually was. Every day I would suddenly think of something else to add to the book, which would then take me off into a completely different direction of collecting.

Christmas is a time for celebration festive cheer and decorating the home in - photo 4

Christmas is a time for celebration, festive cheer and decorating the home in hundreds of Christmas collectables.

Being a collectables expert, I am constantly aware of the current market trends, what to look out for, whats hot and whats not, and to tell the difference between a fake and genuine article. However, it is the social history and nostalgia behind these wonderful antiques and collectables that really excites me. I love to learn how these items began, then evolved and finally made a mark on the industries and the people that were part of their inception. In my line of work I never stop learning and one of the biggest thrills for me is passing my knowledge onto others. So, I hope that you too will learn lots as you read through the pages.

Then there have been all the wonderful people that have helped me in this quest, like those members of the Golden Glow of Christmas Past organisation which is a forum of pre-1966 Christmas collectors. I hadnt even realised a collectors club like this existed. Now I know different, and was amazed when one member told me he puts up twenty-four vintage trees covered in antique and vintage ornaments every year in his home.

In fact, nearly everyone I have met during the course of writing has given great pleasure in telling me their own Christmas stories. Some reminisce on childhood Christmas memories whilst others relay humorous accounts of their Christmas Day. Then there are those that talk about all the Christmas items they remember owning which have now become highly sought after collectables and appear within the pages of this book.

So, who knows, when you next assemble that Christmas tree you might just decide that it needs a few vintage accessories or when you are shopping at your local department store you wont be able to stop yourself from buying all that collectable festive crockery and before long your home could end up a year round shrine to the seasonal period.

So that just leaves me one more thing to say and that is I wish you all a very Merry and Collectable Christmas.

Tracy
