The Atheist Republic
This book was published by Atheist Republic,a non-profit organization with upwards of a million fans andfollowers worldwide that is dedicated to offering a safe communityfor atheists around the world to share their ideas and meetlike-minded individuals. Atheists are a global minority, and it'snot always safe or comfortable for them to discuss their views inpublic.
At the very least, discussing ones atheisticviews can be uncomfortable and ostracizing. In some countries, speaking out against religion can put someone in physical danger.By offering a safe community for atheists to share their opinions,Atheist Republic hopes to boost advocacy for those whose voicesmight otherwise be silenced.

INTRODUCTION
I remember as a child believing in all sortsof weird and crazy things, like vampires and goblins, witchcraftand magic, even government conspiracy theories. As a child thesethings seemed wholly possible because the world was largely awondrous and mysterious place for a child. Things like physics andother scientific disciplines that explain why the world is the wayit is, were largely unknown or not understood at all by me then. But as I've grown up I've come to see the world as it is ratherthan how I'd like to imagine it to be. I've come to understand thatthere are no vampires or witches, no magic, and in all likelihoodwhat we call the supernatural is merely a misunderstanding ofnature. In short, when I became a man I put away childish ideas infavor of reality.
Many people however seem incapable of this.As they grow into adulthood they merely trade one fantastical ideafor another. They leave Santa Claus behind and adopt god as theirnew benefactor. Of course Santa is just fiction, but their god mustbe fact. It doesn't seem to occur to them that these two ideas aremerely one in the same. If we examine them closely, the parallelsare unmistakable.
Santa has a list of good and bad people. Thegood ones get gifts and the bad ones get punishment. It's the samewith this god fellow as well. If you're a good child you get aneternal pizza party, but if you're bad it's a permanent time out ina lake of fire.
So why is it, that one of these ideas iswidely accepted by the majority of people and the other is not? What it boils down to is doctrine. You see, there is no gospel ofSanta Claus and as such the tale of Santa is an oral myth that hasno definitive writ to follow. Sure, we can go back and see how themyth began, but what does Santa require of his followers? The onlything we know is that Santa supposedly wants us to be good people. But how we are supposed to be good people isn't laid out in aspecific doctrine, and so that judgment is left in the hands of theone perpetuating the myth.
When dealing with the idea of god however, wedo in fact have set commandments given through doctrine that we aresupposedly meant to follow in order to earn our reward from thesegods. It is the ideas of these doctrines that I'd like to breakdown and address here, and how blind faith is indeed a form ofinsanity. And it is my sincere hope that by the end of this book, you will see these doctrines for what they are nothing butinsanity.
Chapter 1:
In The Beginning
Section 1
I'll start with the genesis myth of thebible. In the book of Genesis, the bible begins by telling thesupposed story of the creation of the universe, and humans.
In the beginning God created theheavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of Godwas hovering over the waters.
And God said, Let there be light, andthere was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separatedthe light from the darkness. God called the light day, and thedarkness he called night. And there was evening, and there wasmorningthe first day.
And God said, Let there be a vaultbetween the waters to separate water from water. So God made thevault and separated the water under the vault from the water aboveit. And it was so. God called the vault sky. And there wasevening, and there was morningthe second day.
And God said, Let the water under thesky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear. And itwas so. God called the dry ground land, and the gathered watershe called seas. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, Let the land producevegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bearfruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds. And itwas so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed accordingto their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according totheir kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morningthe third day.
And God said, Let there be lights inthe vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and letthem serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, andlet them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on theearth. And it was so. God made two great lightsthe greater lightto govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He alsomade the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give lighton the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separatelight from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there wasevening, and there was morningthe fourth day.
And God said, Let the water teem withliving creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across thevault of the sky. So God created the great creatures of the seaand every living thing with which the water teems and that movesabout in it, according to their kinds, and every winged birdaccording to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessedthem and said, Be fruitful and increase in number and fill thewater in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth. Andthere was evening, and there was morningthe fifth day.
And God said, Let the land produceliving creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, thecreatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, eachaccording to its kind. And it was so. God made the wild animalsaccording to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to theirkinds. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, Let us make mankind inour image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish inthe sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all thewild animals, and over all the creatures that move along theground.
So God created mankind in his ownimage,
in the image of God he createdthem;
male and female he created them.
God blessed them and said to them, Befruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Ruleover the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over everyliving creature that moves on the ground.
