Go to Joseph: Meditations with Saint Joseph: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Go to Joseph: Meditations with Saint Joseph" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

With his extraordinary figure and so close to our human condition (Pope Francis), Saint Joseph is very close to those of us, ordinary people, without for this reason our lives lack of importance for God and others. The Holy Patriarch teaches us much more than what may appear at first glance. It shows us paths of holiness, faith, prayer, love of family, humility, workmanship, detachment... This book offers meditations on the biblical text about Gods man of trust: they are designed for those who do a few days of retreat, as well as for the personal prayer and spiritual reading.

Patricio Olmos. Born in La Plata (Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina) in 1958. Priest, professor of Philosophy and Doctor of Canon Law. After years of government responsibilities in the Prelature of Opus Dei ( in Argentina and Puerto Rico ), he exercises his priestly ministry with youths and adults, mainly through talks and spiritual accompaniment.

Epilogue

Ite ad Joseph: Go to Joseph.

Genesis 41:55

At the end of these reflections on the life of the Holy Patriarch which have tried to follow the thread of the holy life of the faithful custodian of Jesus and Mary, we can accept as given to us the advice that Pharaoh gave his people, who were hungry as a result of a great drought: Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you!.

That Joseph of the Old Testament, whose story is told with great skill and ability to attract attention in Genesis chapters 37 to 47, is a figure of Jesus Christ, but he is also a figure of our Joseph of the New Testament. With admirable synthesis St. Bernard teaches it: That Joseph sold because of the envy of his brothers and led into Egypt, forecast that Christ would be sold: this other Joseph, fleeing from the envy of Herod took Christ into Egypt. That one due to fidelity to his Lord did not want to unite himself to the woman; this one recognizing his wife as a virgin mother of his Lord and keeping continence, faithfully protected her. That one was to understand the mysteries of dreams, this one was to be knowledgeable and participated in the heavenly sacraments. That one kept wheat, not for himself, but for all the people; this one was commissioned to take care of the living bread that comes down from heaven, both for himself and for the whole world .

Joseph was great: whenever we approach his life, we are confirmed in this reality. He is the holiest man. Someone who from silence and humility reached high levels of holiness. And so it was that a simple, hard-working, patient, long-suffering, helpful, quiet, humble, obedient and ignored man was praised as a just, faithful, prudent and good man; as an effective man, who knew how to get ahead in difficult circumstances with the family that God placed in his care, protecting them from dangers and liberating them .

In addition to being a great advocate, he is an approachable model. He is not a martyr who offers his life in a way that we consider far from our daily realities. He is not an inimitable apostle who tirelessly traveled the world. He is not wise in a human manner who dazzled everyone with his research and teachings. Joseph, a simple man, searched for God; Joseph a detached man, found God, Joseph a retired man enjoyed God .

If you want my advice, which I have never tired of repeating these many years, Ite ad Joseph : Go to St. Joseph. He will show us definite ways, both human and divine, to approach Jesus . These meditations were mainly intended to help during a few days of retreat and moments of prayer. In any case I personally propose to the reader, what I propose to myself as I end these pages: go more often to St. Joseph. How? As the Holy Spirit let us understand, but perhaps it can be like this:

  • ask him for help at every prayer time, at the beginning and the end;
  • count on his intercession as we prepare for Holy Mass and as we give thanks at the end;
  • offer our work through him and carry it out as holy as possible;
  • entrust to him the spiritual life of our relatives and friends;
  • go to the patron of the happy death when we hear of someone dying;
  • keep him present when saying the Rosary;
  • remember him on Wednesdays;
  • keep him as a reference of fidelity to our own vocation.

God willing that we have grown in affection towards Joseph and by his hand, also towards Jesus and Mary. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, make me always be with you three!

Patris Corde , 4. Also in this document he confesses that he recites this prayer daily, that has served him in times of uncertainty or difficulty: Every day, for more than forty years, after Lauds, I recite a prayer to Saint Joseph taken from a book of French devotions of the 19th century, of the Congregation of the Religious of Jesus and Mary, which expresses devotion, trust and certain challenge to Saint Joseph. Glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, whose power knows how to make impossible things possible, come to my aid in these moments of anguish and difficulty. He takes under your protection such serious and difficult situations that he entrusted to you, so that they have a good solution. My beloved Father, all my trust is in you. Let it not be said that I have invoked you in vain and, as you can do everything with Jesus and Mary, show me that your goodness is as great as your power. Amen (id.2).
