Acknowledgments
This book was a long time in the making. I started drafting extended notes in 2006 at the encouragement of two great magickal friends; we had not long returned from an amazing retreat in Ireland, and it was becoming increasingly obvious that the Fae of the urban realms had something to say. They believed that I was to be one to speak for them, and I will always be eternally grateful t o them for instilling that first spark of an idea into my mind. Despite the idea sitting on the back burner for over a decade, many people along the way made s ure that I never forgot it was a book that should be written.
My long-suffering husbeast, Colin, who brings me food and reminds me when my coffee has gone cold, I would starve without you. My beautiful daughter, Jadziawho has more than a little bit of the Fae about heryou, my darling girl, have always reminded me when I need to go and dance with the faeries. To Kristoffer, who nagged me into taking a chance and submitting a proposal when the opportunity came up, thanks for having faith in me. To Paolo Di, who helped me with the Aradia translations, you are a truly inspiring and magickal person. I hope we can do another project again soon. To George, who dared to share. To David Rankine, who always kindly points me in the direction of the right grimoire when I ask, thank you, my friend; my practic e would be a lot less without you.
I thank the Mother for her blessings and the help that I have received.
I offer this book as a sign of my respect.

Introduction
I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons.
It all exists, even if its in your mind.
Whos to say that dreams and nightmares
arent as real as the here and now?
Humanity has always believed in something other. Our folkloric stories are full of nymphs and pixies, elves and goblins. In some parts of the world even today, belief in the supernatural is so strong that the course of roads has bee n changed and buildings resited in an attempt to appease or, better still, avoid supernatural wrath altogether. Despite our best endeavors to ignore them, we are both drawn to and repulsed by these creatures.
I remember being told as a child by the older children that faeries lived in the hedgerow that surrounded the local playground. If you went there at midnight on a moonlit night and circled the swings skipping backward, the faeries would come out and play with you. Enthralled by such a wondrous and exciting concept, I harassed every child in the street, badgering them until they agreed that we would go together and see if the stories were true. On t he chosen night, I stood at my window, staring at the moonbeams and shivering in anticipation, convinced that every shadow moved with creatures from the otherworld. The clock ticked as I waited for the older children to emerge from their homes and give me the signal that we were ready. But no child ever appeared. Midnight grew ever closer and eventually ticked away.
