THE NORTH WIND AND THE SUN

The North Wind boasted of great strength. The Sun argued that there is great power in gentleness. "We shall have a contest," said the Sun. Far below, a man traveled a winding road. He was wearing a warm winter coat. "As a test of strength," said the Sun, "Let us see which of us can take the coat off of that man."

"It will be quite simple for me to force him to remove his coat," bragged the Wind. The Wind blew so hard, the birds clung to the trees. The world was filled with dust and leaves. But the harder the wind blew down the road, the tighter the shivering man clung to his coat.

Then, the Sun came out from behind a cloud. Sun warmed the air and the frosty ground. The man on the road unbuttoned his coat. The sun grew slowly brighter and brighter. Soon the man felt so hot, he took off his coat and sat down in a shady spot.

The question is Can a Computer be Hacked if its Not Connected to the Internet?

An article, with this same title, dated March 23, 2017, by Michael Guta in Technology Trends reports it can, reporting:

A New York Times article reported about NSA technology allowing hackers to get into a computer, even if it is not connected and alter the data. But this technology requires physical access to the computer. According to the Times report, In most cases, the radio frequency hardware must be physically inserted by someone, a manufacturer, or an unwitting user.

This however is not the only way unconnected computers or smartphones can be accessed or monitored. An article in Business Insider reveals several ways in which this can be achieved. This includes electromagnetic radiation spying, power consumption analysis, using a smartphones accelerometer as a Key Logger, radio waves that intercept the most secure of networks, using the heat generated by our computer, and accessing data through steel walls.

It must be understood that the author of this book series, has a high standard in all endeavors, and continues to make great effort to bring forth quality work.

CHAPTER ONE

The Art of High-Tech Persuasion

D ISGUISED AS NEW TECHNOLOGY , Fox News reported that the US military has begun testing Artificial Intelligence brain implants that can change a persons mood. These mind control chips emit electromagnetic pulses that alter brain chemistry by deep brain stimulation. The technology delivers high-frequency electromagnetic stimulation to a targeted area of the brain. The stimulation changes the electrical signals of the brain thereby changing mood and behavior.

In reality, this so-called new technology is part of continued advancements by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) a branch of the Department of Defense, which develops new technologies for military use.

Researchers from the University of California and Massachusetts General Hospital report that the artificial intelligence algorithm detects brainwave patterns in the brain specifically associated with moods.

Through high-tech monitoring and tracking of a person, implanted with electro lodes, for example, for seizure disorder monitoring over the course of three weeks, researchers were able to create an algorithm to decode the test subjects moods. The study included images of numbers and identifying emotions on the face, difficulties in concentration and problems with empathy. The research resulted in a greater understanding of the full range of mood disorders and how they can be manipulated. Although the chips wont be able to read a persons mind, the reported stated, the Artificial Intelligence chips do raise ethical concerns. Why? This is because the research has access to activity that encodes human feelings.

The question is what are the moral implications of any technology that has access to activity that encodes feelings?
