A Welcoming Note from Guy Finley

Have you ever noticed how some moments in your life stand out more than others? And how some of these moments can seem, at least at the time, to be relatively unimportant in the overall scale of your life? And still how its possible to know in that moment youll never forget what just happened?

Let me relate to you one such unforgettable moment of mine. It helps set the stage to explain some of the reasons for writing this new book, as well as what you can expect to find within its pages. The story begins years ago with me in the middle of a newspaper interview about my latest book at the time. At that point in our conversation, the lady journalist wanted to know what it was about my life that had brought me to write what she called this kind of book.

The intonation of her voice told me that she had neither love nor understanding of what was the very center of my life. Nevertheless, I tried to encourage her with my response, gently suggesting to her to consider that our lives may be something far greater than any of us can think about; and that self-investigation is a timeless pursuit with timeless rewardsbeyond the capacity of even ten thousand books to reveal, let alone convey to their readers. Well

To paraphrase an old expression that goes straight to the heart of what happened next, trying to talk to some people about Truth is like trying to explain ice to a summer insect.

The journalist looked me up and down, drew a breath, and fired her next question at meas if to let me know that she knew what I was really up to. This is the moment I wont forget. She spoke somewhat sarcastically, ignoring all I had tried to convey:

Yes, I see. But tell me, how many more books are you going to write? She continued, I mean, dont you think that theres something wrong with just putting out one book after another all about the same subject?
