Every day God freely displays His blessings. Are we too busy or disinterested to appreciate their wonder? Even if weve forgotten Hes there, reminders are all around for He is the God of covenants. In a world where promises (or covenants) are disregarded routinely, I need Gods kind of stability.
Lord, only You can renew my weary spirit and fill me with fresh expectation. Keep my eyes on Your rainbows!
I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and rememberw the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.
G ENESIS 9:13, 16 NIV
Jesus came not only to save but to teach men and women how to have a true servants heart. The substance of ministry is service. When the apostles agreed to follow Christ, they accepted the call on His terms, not theirs.
Lord, show me clearly where I can be of service within my local body of believers.
Perhaps theres a small hand in the Sunday school just waiting to be held.
Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for people.
M ATTHEW 4:19 NIV
Gaius provided genuine hospitality, and evidently this included opening his own home, heart, and pocketbook to others, that the Word of God might go forth.
If only we all might have such pure motives for assisting others, that they might receive Gods Word and see His love flowing all around them. Such a practical ministry of serving God gives honor to God, is a penetrating witness to the lost, and is a way of demonstrating obedience to God.
The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are strangers; and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.
3 J OHN 1:1, 56
As we come before the Lord we first need to honor Him as Creator, Master, Savior, and Lord. Reflect on who He is, and praise Him. And because were human, we need to confess and repent of our daily sins. Following this we should be in a mode of thanksgiving. Finally, our prayer requests should be upheld. My usual order for requests is self, family members, and lifes pressing issues.
Your prayers certainly dont have to be elaborate or polished. God does not judge your way with words. He knows your heart. He wants to hear from you.
