All frogs hatch from eggs. Female frogs lay a huge mass of eggs, commonly on the water or in moist places. There may be thousands of eggs in one egg mass! An egg mass looks a little like a tiny bunch of grapes.
MAke the GrAde
Toads have a similar life cycle to frogs. But toads lay their eggs in a chain rather than a mass.

After a few days or weeks, most frogs hatch as tadpoles. Tadpoles are larvae that have tails and gills for living in the water. It takes a lot of food for them to grow. They eat algae, plants, and sometimes even other tadpoles!
MAke the GrAde
How long it takes for a tadpole to grow legs and become a frog depends on the species. It could be a few weeks or a few months!
