DO YOU HAVE AN OLD HAT FAITH?
Is the Bible simply a book that confirms what we already believe, or instead is our belief to be conformed by what is written in the book? Even the Gospel can become old hat to those who take their faith for granted. Selective Belief is written with a fresh look into what we think we already know about salvation and Gods grace. The love of God for the sinners whom He saves is a story that never grows old. It is an eternal love story that we gladly tell to all who will listen.
This book stems from many encounters with those who see Gods only
purpose as a sinner-saver. To many of these, this is the sole purpose for His existence. God is greater than this. He reigns in a glorious Kingdom where He currently rules as King. He has a Universe to manage, and a fallen world to bring to its ultimate conclusion. We will discover a God who is on the midst of working His eternal plan. In this eternal plan He graciously chooses to include as His own children, people from the humanity of this earth to become heirs to His Kingdom and to become the recipients of His eternal blessings.
This book will cause you to take a fresh look into the scriptures that speak of Gods choices regarding our salvation, as well as the process by which He brings it to come to pass in our life. It will challenge you to take another look into what you thought you already knew about your salvation.

Dedicated to the loving memory of
Pauline Camarotti
I would like to begin by giving praise, honor and glory to our heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit who has moved me with the desire and prayerful guidance for the production of this book. It has taken many years of straightforward Bible study and spiritual growth to discover the truths of the theological positions I have now come to hold. For this I also give Him thanks.
For all of us, knowledge and wisdom are an ongoing process. It will be perfected only in Heaven. My prayer is that He will use this book for a greater understanding to all readers of the wisdom of His revealed truth to us in scripture.
I also have many people to thank for their help in the production of this book.
First, I would like to thank my wife Dottie for her encouragement and help for advising, editing and loving endurance of the five years that was taken out of our lives for its writing. God has gifted her with eagle eyes that she has put to good use in her skillful and patient proofreading of the text.
My thanks include appreciation to Pastor Michael Mirakian, former Senior Pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield, Massachusetts, who has tendered many helpful comments, and also to Pastor Frank Camarotti of Five Points Baptist Church, Fernandina Beach, Florida, and to Wilfred Johnson, President Emeritus of the Guatemala Bible Seminary in Chimaltenango, Guatemala for their prayers and review of the doctrinal materials presented here.
I would also like to thank my friend David Topor for his encouragement and prayer during these years of its writing, and to my fellow Bible student Allen Dyka for his encouragement and suggestion for this title.
The truths of the topics dealt with here have been ably written and exposited by many men of greater reputation and education than I, and I have learned much from their writings. To them also I give thanks.

We live in a world that is desperate for truth, while buried in error and ignorance. Without truth as our guide, we stumble along hoping that we understand what we need to know about ourselves and the world around us. If what we know is based on truth that is applied to our life and our work, our lives will be lived with the fullness that God intended and He will receive the glory that comes from His thankful children. If our life is not based on truth, we suffer from harmed relationships and will not live up to Gods standards.
The things God reveals in the Bible are beneficial to the whole world in that they lead people to faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ. Those who read and apply Bible principles to their lives by faith as Gods truth will benefit from increased knowledge about all things Godly; the Heavenly Father, Jesus the Son, the Holy Spirit, Gods plan of salvation and the Kingdom of God. This will ultimately enable them to live faithful lives as Gods children.
In this book, I will hold to a high view of Scripture. This means that I accept the Bible as Gods revealed truth to humankind. I believe that God inspired the writers of the Bible to communicate His truth to His children throughout every age and circumstance of history. Though God in the past called Prophets to communicate His desires to correct His people, He has now given us His Word as the timeless communication of His revelation. I also believe that God protected it from all attempts of persons throughout history to corrupt or destroy it and preserved His word pure through all its handling by human scribes and copyists of scripture.
We read each portion of scripture as it was meant to be interpreted. The Historical books of the Bible are meant to be read as the history of Gods interactions with His people. The Prophetical Books are read as Gods communicators of warnings to His people over past centuries. The poetical books are read as they were intended to be read, as poetry revealing the wonders and beauty of God. The Gospels are read as the life and teachings of Jesus ministry years. The Epistles are understood and read as letters written to the people and churches of the early Christian era.
Some portions of the Prophetical books are meant to be taken as events of Israels immediate future, while others are of events that will occur only in the end days. The book of Revelation is full of symbolism that also speaks to the end days and the creation of the new Heaven and a new earth.
All of these books were meant to be read by the original readers in the simple way we would have read them at the time if we were the ones to whom they were written. In so doing, they would have been understood in the way God, the original author and the initial writer had intended. Every Book of the Bible has a focus centering on one person, Jesus Christ the Son of God. Every Book reveals a new insight into the birth, nature, ministry and purpose of Jesus the Messiah of God who came into the world as its Savior.
The Bible is a collection of writings culminating in Gods purpose of communication. But the communication is more than just historical. It is above all a spiritual book. Even as the written history is meant to teach us the things of God, there are as well in all of these writings, a spiritual lesson for us today. The ways that people of God in the past obeyed and disobeyed God and how He dealt with them because of their actions has immediate and practical lessons for us who read it today .
Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.1 Corinthians 10:11
