Preface
This series is meant to highlight similarideas, theories and pieces of wisdom between individuals who, onthe surface, seem to be quite different.
Truth, being inherently abstract, istranslated through people and expressed in unique ways. Myintention is to connect the dots between these unique expressionsof wisdom.
There are many great teachers out there, andthe most effective help you to uncover your own inner teacher. BothEckhart Tolle and David Icke encourage you to remember toremember in their own way.
"You come to the teacher to meet yourself." -Eckhart Tolle
Lets begin
Introduction
Theyre talking about the same things! Howdid this not dawn on me earlier? I asked myself as I listened tothe audiobook version of Eckhart Tolles The Power of Now.
Who wouldve thought that thespiritual-guy-on-Oprah and the crazy conspiracy nut who writesabout reptilians are actually saying the same things?
Well, they are. And after a lot of exposureto both of their works, the similarities became glaringly obviousto me. Its just that they approach everything in very differentways.
Connecting the dots between seeminglyunrelated subjects and/or people is exciting. Its like puttingtogether a grand puzzle of life and seeing a beautiful image youotherwise would never have known existed. So lets see how thisimage takes form.
Methods of Expression
Both Eckhart Tolle and David Icke sharepotent messages that are crucial for the further evolution ofhumanity. Their messages are deeply empowering, re-igniting themighty flame within us that many seem to have forgotten.
Though essentially expressing the same ideas,Eckhart Tolle and David Icke have vastly different methods ofexpression.
Eckhart Tolle is more metaphorical, using thetype of colorful language most spiritual teachings tend to employ. He also uses language that is more accessible for everyone. Tollephrases things so that even rigid-minded people can grasp abstractconcepts and the almost incomprehensible truths of our existence. This is how hes gained so much acceptance, especially through theone-woman promotional machine that is Oprah Winfrey.
David Icke, on the other hand, is usuallyvery direct and straightforward. He deciphers the world around us(and within us) piece-by-piece, carefully researching andconnecting dots between the seemingly innumerable points that makeup our picture of reality.
To illustrate this, lets say we asked bothof these individuals a question. Eckhart Tolle would be more likelyto respond to the question with a story that hints at an answer.David Icke would be more likely to directly answer the questionwith a detailed response, maybe adding a story to reinforce hispoint. And its not all black and white either. Eckhart Tolle isvery straightforward at times, and David Icke can be beautifullyallegorical. Its just that the questions both of them answershatter most peoples belief systems and preconceived notions.Thats why the more rigid people are more likely to entertain ametaphorical response, while rejecting the more straightforwardresponse in a knee-jerk reaction.
Theme #1: The Illusion of Time
One major topic that both mystics and cuttingedge scientists agree upon is that time, as we know it, isessentially an illusion.
Eckhart Tolle has an entire book dedicated tothis (The Power of Now). That is a luminous testament to howimportant present moment awareness is.
Time isnt precious at all, because it is anillusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the onepoint that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. Themore you are focused on timepast and futurethe more you miss theNow, the most precious thing there is. - Eckhart Tolle
To illustrate our concept of time, David Ickeuses watching a DVD as a compelling metaphor. The whole movieexists on the DVD, but the scene currently being played is what weperceive as the present moment. Our ego-mind is like the laserreader of the DVD, keeping us locked into the movie as it playsout. So who knows whats possible when we operate fromconsciousness instead of ego? Maybe were able to change DVDs, oreven make our own movie, as opposed to being locked into one.
Why is transcending the concept of time soimportant? Ill let Mr. Tolle provide an interesting insight
All negativity is caused by an accumulationof psychological time and denial of the present. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry all forms of fear are caused by too muchfuture, and
not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms
of nonforgiveness are caused by too muchpast, and not enough presence. Eckhart Tolle (The Power ofNow)
And this doesnt mean we cant learn frompast experiences or plan when we need to. Its more about makingpresence your default state, while referring to the past or futureonly when its relevant to the present moment.
Only refer to the past when it is absolutelyrelevant to the present. Eckhart Tolle
If you set yourself a goal and work towardit, you are using clock time. You are aware of where you want togo, but you honor and give your fullest attention to the step thatyou are taking at this moment. If you then become excessivelyfocused on the goal, perhaps because you are seeking happiness, fulfillment, or a more complete sense of self in it, the Now is nolonger honored. It becomes reduced to a mere stepping stone to thefuture, with no intrinsic value. Clock time then turns intopsychological time. Your life's journey is no longer an adventure, just and obsessive need to arrive, to attain, to "make it." You nolonger see or smell the flowers by the wayside either, nor are youaware of the beauty and the miracle of life that unfolds all aroundyou when you are present in the Now. Eckhart Tolle
Presence
Realize deeply that the present moment isall you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.-Eckhart Tolle
Eckhart Tolle and David Icke both discusspresence as a crucial aspect of personal freedom, and as a result, collective freedom.
"There is no time, there is only one infinitenow." - David Icke
If youre completely present, you transcendthe ego and operate from the intrinsic state of deep inner peace.Fear simply cannot exist when youre present. And you wont be ableto be manipulated in any form. Think about the profoundimplications of that. If everyone became more present, would wehurl insults at other people? Would we make rash, hasty decisions?Would ego-based hierarchies exist? Would anyone be manipulated intofighting wars? Not a chance.
Presence is the leverage point from which youchange yourself, and you are the leverage point from which theworld changes.
How do you become more present? Cherish thenow. It is as simple as realizing that this moment is all thatexists. Flex your presence muscle by consistently remindingyourself to be here now. The past and future are only projectionsof your mind. Fully immerse yourself in the euphoric ocean ofeternal now and experience the ecstasy of everlastingrejuvenation.
Presence is a gift.
Once you have had a glimpse of awareness orPresence, you know it firsthand. It is no longer just a concept inyour mind. Eckhart Tolle
Clock Time is Laughable
David Icke and Eckhart Tolle both refer tothe time system we use as "clock time. They often take alighthearted approach and poke fun at the ridiculousness of clocktime. Our concept of time really is laughably ludicrous if youjust take a step back and contemplate it
"How can you take clock time seriously whenyou can cross an invisible line in the ocean (the InternationalDate Line) and go into tomorrow or yesterday depending on yourdirection of travel?" - David Icke
