TABLE OF CONTENTS
My name is Amy Scobee. Im really nobodyspecial, just someone with a story to tell - the story of my 25years in the top ranks of the Church of Scientology.
I left the church in March of 2005 and aftergetting back on my feet and regaining consciousness in theoutside world, I decided I had a moral duty to inform people ofwhat its like to live and work in a church that has totalcontrol of every aspect of ones life and uses their status as areligion to control the lives of its staff members, to the point ofabuse.
Whats going on behind the scenes is nothingshort of hair-raising and in utter contrast to the objectives thatScientology promotes.
What one doesnt see (or refuses to look at)is a dark world filled with family disconnection, injustices andphysical and mental abuse, all cleverly concealed behind rosy glitzand glamor by PR-trained puppets.
There are numerous individual storiesavailable on the internet for anyone to read. My objective here isto recount my own experience and in doing so, hopefully help to putall of this behind me while at the same time, assisting readers tobetter understand what is promoted as the fastest growing religionon earth with the only true technology to improve the mind andset man free.
Most Scientologists dont have a clue aboutthe information contained in this book as theyve never been onstaff or part of the upper management structure. PublicScientologists are forbidden from reading or listening to anythingderogatory with the threat of being barred from advanced levels ifit were discovered that they were non-compliant. While being keptin the dark, they donate lots of money, attend courses and receivecounseling all the while cheering on David Miscavige, their currentleader, who unbeknownst to them, is a very evil and abusive manafact that will become clear as you venture through the rest of thisbook.
The top of the Church of Scientology is theSea Organization (1) and the top of the Sea Orgis International Management.
(1) The Sea Organization (also called Sea Org orSO for short) was established in 1967 and once operated from anumber of ships (thus sea organization). It was originally set upto help Scientologys founder, L. Ron Hubbard, in his research ofearlier civilizations and to supervise church organizations aroundthe world.
For two decades, I worked at the Sea OrgsInternational headquarters, known as the Int base, situated on500 acres of land near Hemet, California. This is also where GoldenEra Productions is located - the organization that produces thelectures, promotional videos and technical training films forScientology internationally.
Since the property was purchased in 1978,the location of this base and the presence of internationalmanagement there was kept secret, even to Scientologists at lowerechelons. Originally they were trying to make this location secureenough for the Scientology Founder, L. Ron Hubbard, to freely liveand work, and then the tight security policies were kept inforce.
It was a rare occasion for anyone outside ofthe security-cleared Int base personnel to come onto this property. When they did, we went through an entire drill to make the placeAPPEAR awesome. Especially when major celebrities would visit butmore on that later.
This book will take you through my firstencounters with Scientology at age 14 in Bellevue, Washington, myjoining the church and attaining progressively higher positionswithin the organization, my trips to the Rehabilitation ProjectForce (2), then finally to my experiences inbreaking away from Scientology and endeavoring to restart a newlife at age 42 - with absolutely nothing.
(2) The Rehabilitation Project Force (or RPF) isdescribed by the church as a program offering a second chance toSea Org members who have become unproductive or have strayed fromthe churchs codes, involving intensive physical labor at churchfacilities and auditing and study sessions to address theindividuals personal problems. I have a much harsher definitionafter spending a total of 5 1/2 years on this program: A controlledslave labor camp to which is assigned anyone arbitrarily deemed aliability for actions (or thoughts) considered to be in oppositionto the group.
Thanks to the most wonderful and lovingfamily anyone could hope for, I had somewhere to go and I waswarmly welcomed home. This is despite how badly Id neglected myfamily over the years. There was no animosity - just a big reliefto have me back.
Others, who have recently left, were not asfortunate, but thanks to the internet and those banding together onthe outside, were doing what we can to reach out and help them getrestarted successfully too.
Many people honestly feel that theyve beenhelped by the church and believe Scientology has the answers tospiritual freedom as theyve experienced considerable gains throughtheir own participation.
I, too, feel there is a lot of good.Otherwise, I would not have persisted through a fraction of what Idid.
I wanted to help. I wanted spiritual freedomfor myself and others.
But the Scientology world being created, starting at the top of the organization, was (is) nothing short ofinsane. That is a fact that became painfully evident once I finallystripped off the rose-colored glasses, ceased rationalizing theabuse and insanities I both witnessed and experienced and finallyfreed myself from the grip Scientology had on me for most of mylife.
DISCOVERING SCIENTOLOGY
I was 14 years old. My parents had recentlydivorced and my mother took custody of me and my older brother. Thethree of us moved out of the house where I grew up in Auburn,Washington and relocated to Mercer Island. Mom started working as adraftsman at a company in Bellevue, Washington. My brother and Iwould go to school during the day and spend the evenings with mom.Wed visit my father on the weekends.
I was beginning to get used to this routinewhen suddenly my mother was no longer spending the evenings withus. She was now attending classes after work at the Bellevue Churchof Scientology.
One day I was home alone and the phone rang.It was a staff member from the church named Brett. I told him thatmy mom wasnt home. He said that was okay as he was actuallycalling to talk to me. He said that he had heard about me,that I sounded like a very nice person and that I should come intothe church to do an introductory service myself.
