The light within all of us
WE LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES WHERE opportunities for growth and self-expression are tremendous. Yet, many of us may feel blocked and unable to access our inherent creative wisdom to bring healing and spark to areas of our life that most concern us, such as health, relationships, and career. How we spend our waking moments, joyfully or squabbling, are indications of the quality of our relationships and determines our experience of life.
In the course of our day-to-day life, we are called upon to make several important decisions which determine the quality and experience of our life. This is where intuition enters the picture. As sentient beings, we are equipped with an internal guidance system to gain proper perspective, spot opportunities, make intelligent choices, and tackle challenging situations with a calm and balanced mind. The world we see around usthe stars that shine in the sky, the flowers that bloom in the garden, or the way our body functionsreveals the work of intelligence that is highly spontaneous and orderly. In fact, it is the basic fabric which structures all life. This life-giving intelligence that created this world also works in the form of intuition to give meaning and purpose to our life. It functions like a lighthouse, allowing the ship to navigate and stay on its path.
To tap into our intuitive wisdom, we need to awaken the inherent intelligence of the body and mind. This helps us be more comfortable with ourselves as it allows us to be open and receptive to the natural intelligence that creates and sustains the whole universe.
In Hinduism, the statue of Shiva often depicts a third eye at the centre of the forehead between the eyebrows. This is also the place symbolizing the Ajna Chakrathe energy centre of intuition and clairvoyance. Shiva is the symbol of supreme consciousness and the lord of yoga. He is the knower of the past, present, and future and is often referred as Trikaaldarshi.
The whole science and art of yoga is designed in such a way that it enables us to get in touch with our inner guruthe intuitive being. A close look at the eight limbs of yoga reveals exactly the same curriculum which is yamas, niyamas, asanas, pranayam, dharna, and dhyana leading to samadhithe ultimate flowering.
Now, look at the eight-fold path advocated by Buddha, which is, right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, and right mindfulness leading to right concentration.
Both the paths prepare the ground for right concentration or dhyana so that real knowledge or truth can dawn on the mind. Truth provides clarity to our words and power to our actions. Only a mind that can float in effortless silence can perceive what the moment at hand requires and act intelligently. Body and mind are deeply interconnected and are constantly affecting each other for better or worse. So, to see clearly, it is immensely helpful to detoxify the body and mind so that they can be the medium through which we can express ourselves freely without fear. It can be very difficult to perceive the world from a silent mind when the body is aching and the mind is gripped by anger and fear. Hence the importance of awakening the intelligence of the body and mind so that we can harness the life force to creatively manifest our desires and live joyfully.
Intuition is our natural heritage and can guide us towards the fulfilment of our destiny. It is the way that leads us to the truth. Intuitive insights are much more powerful than intellectual knowledge as true insight can transform our lives. When we see or know something completely, not just as a mere abstraction but as a living fact, it affects our whole being including the way we talk and interact with people and even in the way we relax. Intuitive insights tend to occur when the mind is silent and relaxed. However, for the most of us, we may find ourselves agitated or overwhelmed by the demands on our time and so, in order to perceive clearly with a mind that is calm and alert, it requires that we remove the barriers that prevent true understanding.
In chapter one, we take a close look at the phenomenon of intuition and how recovering this natural ability can help us in our daily lives and its various aspects. Chapter two explains our basic underlying reality which constitutes our body and mind which is pure consciousness and energy and how we can use this knowledge to enhance the quality of our lives. Chapter three talks about awakening the natural intelligence of our body and mind through a simple combination of movement, breath, and awareness in all areas of life. We also talk about the use of sound and posture, among other things, to heal and rejuvenate our body and mind. Chapter four looks at the necessity of healing our mental and emotional body by helping us face our fears so that we can release them through true forgiveness and create our reality consciously and responsibly. In chapter five, we talk about creating a sacred space for ourselves through silence and how we can use the power of total attention and intention to unlock the secret mysteries of the universe.
In chapter six, we take a look at various ways through which we can tap into our intuitive wisdom by asking the right questions, so that we may receive answers that empower us to lead healthier and happier lives. We also talk about several factors that may distort intuitive insights and how we can avoid such pitfalls. At the end, I offer certain guidelines that can help us to live life intuitively and spontaneously so that we may harness the boundless wisdom of universal spirit from moment to moment to manifest our desires joyfully and effortlessly.
Awakening the intuitive wisdom requires that we clear the way, and create the right conditions so that when the mind is still, we can tap into the infinite wisdom of the spirit naturally. When we are in touch with our spirit, life unfolds in the most miraculous ways. The mundane and ordinary becomes magical and exciting. Every day begins with the thrill of discovering new opportunities which help us to express our hidden potential and true magnificence.
