Going Beyond the Mind,is Going Beyond all SufferingSuffering is a stranger to no one. Who hasnt gone through the pangs of broken relationships, who hasnt experienced the anguish of thwarted desires, who hasnt been disappointed by people not meeting up with their expectations? Who isnt disgruntled with his or her life for one reason or the other?Indeed, suffering is universal. But most interestingly enough, the cause, the entity behind this universal suffering is a complete stranger to most humans. And perhaps the biggest irony of all is that this stranger is closer to you than your own shadow! Yes, it is none other than your own mind. So, say hello to your mind. Meet your mind as you have never met before. In Mind Undressed the author peels through its intricate layers, disrobes it such that it is stripped down to its very core. This book draws upon the profound experience of an enlightened being who has not only understood this ill-understood entity but has managed to transcend it, thus rising well above all notion of suffering.Anandmurti Gurumaa, an illumined being who has resolved all existential questions, who has realised the purpose of human life by realising the absolute reality, showers her benevolence on mankind through this remarkable book that exhaustively evinces all aspects of this elusive entity called mind. With assured conviction and fluid eloquence she takes us through all the complexities and ends up simplifying the process such that the working of the human mind will be readily comprehensible to ordinary folk.By revealing the mechanics and the dynamics of our mind, by showing us how a fractious mind becomes a hell raiser of suffering, in effect she reveals that the source of our suffering is none other than our own untamed mind. And much to the relief of the reader she offers the panacea by sagaciously elaborating the technique of taming this shrew such that one can bid adieu to suffering forever.

INTRODUCTION

The enigma called mind hascaptured the interest of many thinkers across the world alike.Philosophers, Psychologists, Neuroscientists, Biologists and evenquantum Physicists have been grappling to comprehend thisintriguing, intangible, complex entity called the mind. Nobody candeny its existence yet there is only a rare awakened being whomanages to fully understand the phenomenon of the mind in itstotality. Even to this day, doctors are yet to fully grasp thefunctioning of the human body (especially the brain), which isgross, perceptible then what can one say about the subtle, imperceptible mind?!

Thus people are stumpedwhen asked to point out where exactly the mind is located in theirbody although everyone readily accepts that they do have a mind. And such are its melodramas, that one moment you are in heaven andthe next moment you are in hell. Indeed, it will be hard to beatsuch a fantastic inventor that continuously keeps on creating yourheaven and hell!

Mind is duality. Mind isdilemma. An unilluminated mind is an abysmal repository ofmiseries. It takes you on a tumultuous, desire drivenroller-coaster ride and helpless under its control you are left allblack and blue, wallowing in your mind-inflicted wounds. Mind isthe master for common folk. Thus people live their lives as per theconditioning of their mind not knowing that the mind makes a goodservant but a very bad master. We need to understand our mind. Nowsome may question: Is it worth bothering to do so? Well yes, itmost certainly is! Because a major chunk of human suffering ismind-related; it is consequential to the afflictions of the mind. Moreover, irrespective of whether one is a theist or an atheist, this suffering is common to all ignorant beings. With itscompulsive deluded thinking, turbulent emotional incontinence, tendency to keep ruminating over the past and fretting about thefuture compounded with its habitual impulsive reactive patterns, this unruly mind is the creator of hell in your life. An unbridledmind is like an unbridled horse. And what sort of a governor suchan intemperate master makes is but self-evident.

Suffering is inevitable aslong as you remain ignorant of your real Self and falsely link youridentity with your body and mind. And remember, mind is the subtleform of the body and the latter is the gross aspect of the mind. You are doomed to suffer when you are ruled by a wayward mind. There is no worse enemy than an unruly mind and no better friendthan an obedient mind. So, we need to mind our mind, we need tocomprehend the functioning of our mind. Now, how do we go aboutthis? Fortunately for us, by virtue of their tremendous insight, farsight and wisdom, our exalted sages fathomed the very nature ofthis mind with all its intricacies.

Thus we shall embark uponthis journey of inner evolution, the involution of the mind whereinwe will understand the functioning of the human mind, recognise itsafflictions, the states it dwells in, and know the ways to manageit to go beyond it. In this way you will learn how to tame theshrew of this mind! Understanding the mind is transcending themind. And going beyond the mind is going beyond allsuffering.
