The elements, the guardians, the spirits and gods; these are all things beginner Witches are taught about and trained to work with. We learn about correspondence and how to associate symbols with their mysteries. But what are the real mysteries behind the symbols? What lives at the very heart and core of these teachings? In the Deep Heart of Witchcraft, we seek the teachings and ways that might lead us to look beyond the surface and into the depths of the Craft. In this book, we ll look at the tools and spirits of the sacred elements to connect us back to the power of nature. Through ritual, we turn and face traditions both new and old to enrich our practice and feed the soul. And through the wheel of the year, we connect with the ebb and flow of the cycles of time and space.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT
THE DEEP HEART OF WITCHCRAFT

David Salisbury is well poised to lead the Millennial Generation into deeper contact with their spiritual natures. A dedicated practitioner, he writes of his encounters with the sacred in an intimate way that is sure to help new seekers along the way.

T. Thorn Coyle, mentor, activist, teacher, and author of Make Magic of Your Life: Passion, Purpose, and the Power of Desire, Kissing the Limitless, and Evolutionary Witchcraft.

A powerful and practical manual to bring the depth of spirit to your Craft.

Christopher Penczak, Co-Founder of the Temple of Witchcraft

With an inviting and engaging style David Salisbury opens the reader to The Deep Heart of Witchcraft. From what appears at first to be an eclectic Wiccan outline emerges a conversation that moves passed commonly accepted paradigms and provides powerfully-effective technique and meditation. I recommend this book to Witches who are eager to create and consolidate personal pathways of daily practice. Salisbury opens the door to enriching and soulful connection with the Divine.

Gede Parma, author of Ecstatic Witchcraft and Spirited

David Salisbury has written a truly brilliant work of magic, one that will take the reader on a journey deep into the hidden secrets of the elements of Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Spirit, and explore their connection to the tools, rituals, meditations, and deities that Witches work with every day. I found myself looking at these energies in new ways and am excited to try the practices woven throughout. While many books gloss over these components in a cursory fashion, Salisbury shows how they form the foundation of a truly magical life.

Christian Day, author of The Witches Book of the Dead (Weiser, 2011)

David Salisbury has written a solid, practical guide full of exercises and wisdom that will serve both the beginner and the experienced witch well. The Deep Heart of Witchcraft is both approachable and understandable. Covering everything from meditation to prayer, magic, to honoring the dead, Mr. Salisburys gentle, easy style makes this a delightful addition to ones bookshelf.

Galina Krasskova, author of Exploring the Northern Tradition and Essays in Modern Heathenry

Foreword

The Deep Heart of Witchcraft is a book about transformation by pushing the Self through the elements, communing with the divine, and the cycles of the seasons. It encourages readers to push themselves to not just learn about Witchcraft, but to make it a daily part of life. This book will take you from being someone who is reading a book about Witchcraft into someone who is living Witchcraft. David doesnt just tell you about Witchcraft, but he encourages you to live it, breathe it, and be it. You will constantly be putting this book down, not because its boring, but because you need to use your hands to do something. To do Witchcraft. To be Witchcraft. To live Witchcraft. David has truly crafted a journey deep into the heart of Witchcraft. I have had a first row seat to much of the continuing metamorphosis of David Salisbury that has led to this work. I founded The Firefly House, a nature-based church and school, and as a student of mine, David adapted what I had to offer into his own extensive pool of knowledge. David is one of the most talented and gifted people that I have had the pleasure to work with on my own journey. We have organized hundreds of events together, including public rituals, Pagan Pride Days, and masquerades. In supporting some of the most important national Pagan endeavors of our time, we have felt as if we were fighting for our lives, left energetically bruised and broken in the middle of the street, and yet we still manage to pull ourselves up and put one foot in front of the other. David is the kind of person who can stand in a massive spiritual tidal wave and not let his balance waiver for one moment, and this book illustrates how you can use your own will and cultivate your own inner strength. When we think that we cannot take anymore, and the Universe decides to pile that last straw that would have broken the camels back, the principles shared in this book transform us into the kind of people who can turn please, no more into bring it on, you cant take me down. Witchcraft is not just the way we commune with the divine, but it is the source of our strength as human beings, and the pages of this book provide a guide to manifest that strength within ourselves. David has studied and practiced a wide range of traditional and eclectic teachings in Witchcraft. His motive to write is to serve others, to share with others some of the musings from his own path in hopes that his experiences will help others on their own. Instead of writing from the teachings of a specific tradition, David shares teachings from his own soul. These tools are experiences that have provided growth in his darkest hour and transformation when he wasnt sure where to go next. They have given him strength to keep moving forward. They have honed his skills as a Witch. For several years, David has held many leadership roles in the local DC Pagan and national Pagan communities. Outside of learning from books and teachers, he has often had a trial by fire, so his teachings come from experience. There is no better teacher than one who has put his knowledge to the test, fallen down, and gotten back up to be a better leader. All of our leaders do fall down, and the ones who are still standing are the stronger ones, because they picked themselves back up and kept moving forward. Our authors and teachers need to be people who push themselves to be better, do more, and learn more in their Craft. David is one such person. He is constantly learning and constantly growing. Some of our most notable Pagan authors talk about their past work in a cloud of disconnection. They themselves have evolved and no longer practice or connect with what they penned a decade ago or more, because they, too, are constantly changing and learning. They are pushing themselves to be better, do more, and learn more in their Craft. And, David is one of those authors that will have transformed even more as he continues to push himself to new heights. Here, he pushes you, too. To be better, do more, and learn more in your Craft. For you, he forges a path of intense spiritual exploration and growth. Within these pages are tools for you to herald your own incredible transformation. Bright blessings on your path.
