Preface
Toassume that we know all and have seen all is folly. Much of what wetake for granted today would have been considered magical orheretical only 150-200 years ago. Heaven exists as certainly as theair we breathe. We cant see either but both exist.
God has provided direct evidence of Heavenon only a few occasions in history. Instead God has instructedhumanity to have faith and believe without requiring directevidence.
In these troubled times where many of usbelieve in our scientific discoveries and achievements more than inGods existence. God has provided my family and me with clearevidence of our deceased family members existence in Heaven.
This is our story.
Chapter 1
Introduction
My life has been filled with wonderfulexperiences. Ive traveled the world. Ive witnessed spectacularevents. I have a wife and family with all the love and joy theybring. Ive also had many negative experiences, both with my familyand by myself. I guess you can say Ive led a pretty typical life filled with ups and downs that seem to come and go without rhyme orreason. But every problem and difficulty has been manageable andweve eventually been able to overcome them, move forward, andprosper.
Many people experience extremely difficult timesin their lives. A very small group of people never experience anydifficulties. Almost all of us experience some degree ofdifficulties that try our souls and make us wonder where the graceand guidance of God is.
As medical science and technology and the world,in general, have become more advanced, many of us have embraced theidea that science and technology will solve all of our problems. Asweve become more affluent, weve also come to believe thatacquiring earthly goods is the path to happiness and fulfillment.Thats unrealistic and an unachievable goal.
The news is full of stories about people whoobtain substantial material gains such as large lottery prizes. They expected the money to solve all of their problems. Yearslater, the winners are still as unhappy as they were before theyacquired their wealth. Worldly goods and money didnt make themhappy. In some cases, it actually made them more miserable thentheyd been before.
"Well of course money alone cant buy happiness- but money and power can". Power is a strong elixir. Itsintoxicating, if telling other people what they can or cant do isyour goal. Some feel its equivalent to the control that God hasover our lives. They equate earthly power with spirituality becauselike spirituality, you cant actually see power but you know itsthere. Its a foolish premise.
Like money, power becomes addictive. The moreyou have the more you want. People with power crave more. Theyoften feel the need to demonstrate that power, usually by doingsomething to someone else that the recipient doesnt like.
The bane of power is that the more someoneacquires the more paranoid and overprotective they become aboutkeeping that power. Theyre miserable because they believe somebodyelse is trying to take their power away. How can anyone be happyunder such circumstances?
Spirituality and the capability to acquiremoney, goods, and even power are all gifts from God. But theyrenot a God-substitute. They provide temporary creature comforts or away to achieve goals. They never provide the lasting satisfactionthat a strong spiritual life gives.
Heaven is a reward given to us after ourexistence here. Spirituality and belief in God are the only ways toobtain all the blessings in Heaven. God holds the ultimate power todetermine the level of benefits we achieve there. We can obtainwealth and power here on earth, but if we abuse those gifts bymaking them our God-substitute, well never obtain the ultimatelevel of spiritual acclamation in Heaven.
Others ask, "If God has so much power, whydoesnt God intervene and solve all of our problems here? Afterall, even with all of our advanced technology, the world is a mess.Terrorism, war, starvation, and evil persist and are possiblystronger than theyve ever been throughout history. Why doesnt Godfix all those problems?"
The answer is simple. God is our benefactor, notour nanny. God demonstrates the benevolent use of power by notinterfering in our lives. God lets us choose the things we wantfrom life. For some, the choice may be simple. They dont haveaccess to money or power and can only choose spiritually. Othershave a much greater challenge because they can acquire anythingthey want. Sometimes too easily.
That doesnt mean that God wont alter ourearthly existence by using power if the circumstances warrant.Through prayer we can ask for Gods help and sometimes help isprovided. God may also intervene to prevent an untimely death, injury or other difficulty when they arent supposed to occur.
That leads to the most ponderous question "then what is God, exactly?" This question seems to be asked moreoften during difficult times and now, in our age of advancedtechnology. "Is God some sort of magical, all powerful genie thatlives above the clouds? Does God make the sun shine when happy andspew lightning when angry?"
That characterization trivializes a complexdeity. The original descriptions of God and Gods messages wereprovided when humans were less sophisticated than today.Technology, at the time, was - rustic. That message also hasntbeen updated for todays world. But if God were to send someone toremind us of the Other Sides existence, how would that message bedelivered today?
God simply might choose to communicate throughone or more of us to remind us about what comes after our existencehere ends. God certainly has the power to use any of us, at anytime, and in any way to re-communicate what has been communicatedto us before in many other ways.
With the grace and power of God, concreteevidence of Heaven has been provided to my family and me. We dontknow if it was intended to give us comfort and make us prepared forthe Other Side, or whether were supposed to tell others. But ifthis concrete proof of life after death helps other people thinkabout how to live their lives and strengthen their faith in God andHeaven, then its definitely worth sharing.
Chapter 2
Who Am I?
My given name is Thomas. Im an engineer andscientist by training and profession. That makes me not only acynic, but a double cynic. I was named Thomas for a reason - i.e.,doubting Thomas. If Id been born in Missouri, the "show-me" state, instead of Indiana, Id be a triple cynic and never believeanything.
My religious experience is typical for membersof my generation. My family was Lutheran. My parents werereligious, but not over-zealously so. We lived good lives. Learnedprayers. Went to church on Sunday. Sang in the choir. We all hadstrong faith and never questioned the existence of God, even whentimes were tough. Our faith and strength carried us throughdifficult as well as good times.
I went to parochial school, by choice, in2nd grade and attended through 6th grade. I chose to switch topublic school in 7 th grade sothat I could attend the same school as my best friends. Bothdecisions were left to me and neither was influenced by my parents. They never expressed any concern about my switch from parochial topublic school. I was taught to love God, not fear God.Recriminations were not part of the way our family livedlife.
