INTRODUCTION

Fear is more than a figment of our imaginations or something that can be overcome merely by exercising willpower. The world would have us to believe it is a normal part of life; however, there is nothing natural or normal about fear, and it should never be tolerated on any level. In fact, I will go so far as to say that fear is a cancer that is affecting people from all walks of life. It is a spiritual force that is designed by the enemy to steal, kill, and destroy.

I remember a time when fear was a major stronghold in my life, as well as in the life of my wife, Taffi. My own personal experience with fear stemmed from a tragic death in my family that took place when I was in college. I had a female relative who went out one night and mysteriously disappeared. She was later found dead in the trunk of a car.

This experience impacted me in a tremendous way because it was through this tragedy that the enemy planted a seed of fear in my soul that surfaced when I married Taffi. The fear of something happening to her when she left the house frequently tormented me. Fear had gained a foothold in my life. I would sit home waiting for her, and when she finally walked through the door I would explode in anger. She couldnt figure out the root of my issue. Later, I finally told her what had happened to my aunt.

Years went by, and I was still never really comfortable with her going anywhere by herself, particularly when we started a church in New York. Taffi would want to catch cabs or walk around Manhattan, and I would go into panic mode every time. One day, the Lord spoke to me and said, If you dont get rid of this fear concerning your wifes protection, youre going to be credited with any type of harm that comes to her. What a hard word! When I heard it, my immediate reaction was to defend my position by letting God know I had to take care of her, until He told me He could take care of her better than I could. He reminded me of His promise of angelic protection and how those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High are kept safe. I had to take Him at His Word, and release the fear of something happening to my wife. Only then was I able to turn over everything pertaining to my wife and kids to God. I have since learned to have peace about their safety. God takes care of us, which is why I dont have to stress out about it.

My story is just one of millions of similar encounters with the spirit of fear, and it is also a testament to the power of God residing in each of us to overcome it. When we get to the place where we refuse to tolerate fear in any form, it has to leave. And when fear leaves, Satan leaves. This book is designed to expose the spirit of fear in all its forms and show you how faith in God brings the victory. His love not only transcends the spirit of fear, but it flushes it out. By developing in the love of God and getting away from an attitude of self-preservation, we can begin to live fear-free lives, every day.

As you carefully digest and apply the truths revealed in this book, I pray that the spirit of fear will leave your life as well. Gods covenant is full of promises that cover every possible area of fear, and through our faith, those promises can become a reality. Now, lets discover the truth about fear.

CHAPTER 1

Understanding the Laws That Govern Life

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live

(Deuteronomy 30:19).

Nothing just happens. I know that goes against a lot of religious thinking and ideas about why certain things take place and who is to blame, but the truth of the matter is everything that transpires in this earth and in our lives happens for a reason. When we understand the laws that govern life, we become aware of how our involvement with certain spiritual principles can actually activate things in our livesgood or bad. Forget about being powerless against the enemy and being subject to the havoc he wants to wreak. The choices we make are the catalysts to God or Satan having access to our lives. We have the power to do something about where we are and to prevent the catastrophes that are designed to destroy our faith in God.

Everything starts with an understanding of the laws that govern life. What is a law? It is an established principle that will work for anyone who will get involved with it. The laws that govern life are those unseen spiritual principles that, when activated, will result in certain consequences. Your knowledge of these laws, and the results of turning them on, can be the difference between life and death.

If you are unfamiliar with the concept of spiritual laws and how they work, I want you to consider some natural laws that operate along the same lines and have inevitable results. For example, the law of gravity says that whatever goes up must come down. It is an undeniable, irrefutable law of nature. Simply put, there is no way any of us are getting around it. Even if you dont believe gravity works, it doesnt change the fact that if you jump off the top of a skyscraper, you are going to fall to the ground. Gravity is a law that will work every time, for anyone who will get involved with it. There are also laws of physics, laws that govern an objects ability to take flight, etc. Laws govern the universe in which we live.

Now, when it comes to the things that go on in our lives personally, there are also laws in operation that we must be aware of. These are spiritual laws, or principles, that will also work for anyone who will get involved. The results of activating them are as guaranteed as the law of gravity. Unfortunately, most peoples ignorance of spiritual laws results in a lot of problems.
