Between now and then is informative, easy to comprehend, and at times even fun to read despite the seriousness of the subject. Relying on her vast experience, research, and interviews, Jeanne Hoff delivers the goods on pretty much everything one needs to know about planning for those events that everyone is destined to face. Its not likely one will find so much information in just one book and where more is needed, Hoff points the way to obtain the best professional advice.

Jeanne Hoff is an anachronism. She is a genuine throwback to the days when the title of executive secretary or administrative assistant meant something of substance. People who held those positions in a firm were expected to have an array of competencies from postal physics to punctuation. They were usually the last line of defense preventing some highly paid, graduate-educated big shot from looking like a real bonehead to his clients or colleagues as a result of the all-too-ubiquitous dumb mistake the one we all make at one time or another.
I met Jeanne as the result of our search for the Holy Grail of office staff. Years earlier I had founded The Merlin Group, a full-service financial planning firm with a rare, but not totally unique business plan bring values-based, life planning & financial services to the public with a fiduciary standard of competency, commitment and communication. I wanted to make my training as a Certified Financial Planner Practitioner and my personal values work for our clients in an industry riddled with greed and corruption. Our customers made us a success. We were growing like a weed. We desperately needed an office manager who could pull it all together do practically anything with little or no supervision and clearly reflect our commitment to competency. Like I said the Holy Grail!
Jeannes resume documenting vast experiences running her own business, working in key Philadelphia and Montgomery County law firms, personally assisting some near-celebrity estate attorneys led me to ask Why do you want to work here? She was, obviously, way overqualified for what we thought we were able to afford. Someone like her would likely shock our salary budget. Her answer was equally shocking. Im not sure that I do want to work here, she replied. Who was interviewing who, I thought. It became obvious real soon. I want to be a part of something special. I dont need to be a chief but I dont want to be just an Indian either. Challenge me make it worth my time and talent not so much in what you pay me but how you make use of what I know and what I can do! Like I said the Holy Grail. And she was to become a big part of our enterprise. Her undying passion for conveying the need and implementing the details of estate planning made her an invaluable asset to us and our client base. She brought a goldmine of knowledge and experience to the table. She had been there and done that so many times before and now she was part of our planning team. Thus, I feel uniquely qualified and deeply honored to introduce this treasure of a book to you.
