    PROMISES ABOUT
    THE CHRISTIAN LIFE:

Do you believe God is near? He wants you to. He wants you to know he is in the midst of your world. Wherever you are, he is present. In your car. On the plane. In your office, your bedroom, your den. Hes near.

Hes involved in the car pools, heartbreaks, and funeral homes of our day. He is as near to us on Monday as on Sunday. In the school room as in the sanctuary. At the coffee break as much as the communion table.

That is why his Word speaks to the things in our world. It is not addressed to aliens in a distant galaxy. It is addressed to you and me. It speaks to our needs, our hopes, our dreams.

Wherever you are in life, wherever you go in this world, I pray this little book of Gods promises will remind you that he is always near. As you read, may you find that his promises speak of his personal passion for you.

His faithfulness is clear. His will to change the world, relentless.

He has drawn near to you.

    PROMISES ABOUT LOVE

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous,it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude,is not selfish, and does not get upset with others. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. Love is not happy with evil but is happy with the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always remains strong.

    1 CORINTHIANS 13 : 4 7

We know the love that God has for us,and we trust that love. God is love. Those who live in love live in God,and God lives in them.

    1 JOHN 4 : 16

The Father himself loves you. He loves youbecause you loved me and believed that I came from God.

    JOHN 16 : 27

I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you. All people will know that you are my followersif you love each other.

    JOHN 13 : 34 35

Our love depends on the receiver of the love. Let a thousand people pass before us, and we will not feel the same about each. Our love will be regulated by their appearance, by their personalities. Even when we find a few people we like, our feelings will fluctuate. How they treat us will affect how we love them. The receiver regulates our love.

Not so with the love of God. We have no thermostatic impact on his love for us. The love of God is born from within him, not from what he finds in us. His love is uncaused and spontaneous.

Does he love us because of our goodness? Because of our kindness? Because of our great faith? No, he loves us because of his goodness, kindness, and great faith.

    A LOVE WORTH GIVING

    PROMISES ABOUT FAITH

Faith means being sure of the things we hope for andknowing that something is real even if we do not see it.... It is by faith we understand that the whole world was madeby Gods command so what we see was made by somethingthat cannot be seen.... Without faith no one can pleaseGod. Anyone who comes to God must believe that he is realand that he rewards those who truly want to find him.

    HEBREWS 11 : 1 , 3 , 6

The Good News shows how God makes peopleright with himselfthat it begins and ends with faith. As the Scripture says, But those who are rightwith God will live by trusting in him.

    ROMANS 1 : 17

We have troubles all around us, but we are not defeated. We do not know what to do,but we do not give up the hope of living. We are persecuted, but God does not leave us. We are hurt sometimes, but we are not destroyed.... So we do not give up. Our physical body is becomingolder and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made newevery day. We have small troubles for a while now,but they are helping us gain an eternal glory that ismuch greater than the troubles. We set our eyes not onwhat we see but on what we cannot see....

    2 CORINTHIANS 4 : 8 9 , 16 18

Faith is the belief that God is real and that God is good.... It is a choice to believe that the one who made it all hasnt left it all and that he still sends light into the shadows and responds to gestures of faith....

Faith is the belief that God will do what is right.

God says that the more hopeless your circumstances, the more likely your salvation. The greater your cares, the more genuine your prayers. The darker the room, the greater the need for light.

Gods help is near and always available, but it is only given to those who seek it.

    HE STILL MOVES STONES

    PROMISES ABOUT CONTENTMENT

Serving God does make us very rich, if we are satisfiedwith what we have. We brought nothing into the world, so wecan take nothing out. But, if we have food and clothes, wewill be satisfied with that. Those who want to become richbring temptation to themselves and are caught in a trap. They want many foolish and harmful things that ruin anddestroy people. The love of money causes all kinds of evil. Some people have left the faith, because they wanted to getmore money, but they have caused themselves much sorrow.

    1 TIMOTHY 6 : 6 1 0

Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God foreverything you need, always giving thanks. And Gods peace, which is so great we cannot understand it, will keep yourhearts and minds in Christ Jesus.... I have learned to besatisfied with the things I have and with everything thathappens. I know how to live when I am poor, and I knowhow to live when I have plenty. I have learned the secret ofbeing happy at any time in everything that happens.... Ican do all things through Christ, because he gives me strength.

    PHILIPPIANS 4 : 6 7 , 11 13

Satisfied? That is one thing we are not. We are not satisfied....

We take a vacation of a lifetime.... We satiate ourselves with sun, fun, and good food. But we are not even on the way home before we dread the end of the trip and begin planning another.
