Introduction
Gods Word is filled to the brim with amazing promises for believers, but we often overlook them. We buzz through our daily Bible reading, missing these remarkable gems altogether, or not seeing them for what they are. What a shame!
This little book focuses on ninety-three of those promisesspecific words from the Lord that you can take to the bank. The Lord wants us to be strong from the inside out, and these tidbits offer the encouragement you need to keep going when you dont feel like it. On particularly difficult days, one word from the Lord can give you what you need to face giants or stay the course.
So, brace yourself! The promises youre about to read are real. They are heaven breathed and God inspired. In fact, they might just change your life.
Rescued from Darkness
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
C OLOSSIANS 1:1314 NIV
If youve ever tried to navigate your way through a dark space, you know the dangers of not being able to see clearly. Sure, your eyes will eventually adjust, and you might be able to distinguish objects, but crawling around in the haze can make for a pretty dismal life.
Now picture a shaft of light breaking through your darkness, illuminating your path and sending the bogeyman running. Picture yourself being liftedphysically, spiritually, and emotionallyfrom that once-dark place and transported to a land where you are surrounded by light on every side. Thats what its like when God rescues us from darkness. He promises to split through the bleak, dark shadows and lift us to a new place, one where His goodness and radiant light are ever-present. Oh to be rescued by the Author of Light! To be transferred to a new kingdom, one where His Son illuminates our path. What joy!
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.
I SAIAH 42:16 NIV
He led them with a cloud by day and by the light of a fire by night.
P SALM 78:14 NCV
Before those people lived in darkness, but now they have seen a great light. They lived in a dark land, but a light has shined on them.
I SAIAH 9:2 NCV
Gods Medicine: a Joyful Heart
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
P ROVERBS 17:22 NASB
Everyone faces painful days. Some are so bad the easiest thing would be to crawl back into bed and hide under the covers. The pain is too severe. If only a blink of the eyes could make it go away.
God doesnt have a physical medicine for the pain we endure, but He offers something even betterjoy. Yes, joy! This bubbly bit of kindness from the Lord is just the medicine to pull us out of the doldrums when were down. His joy works like a doctor-prescribed medication, but costs a lot less and has no side effects. Well, no negative side effects, anyway! Today, raise your hands to the sky and praise God for the joy Hes bestowed, even if you dont feel like it.
Every day is hard for those who suffer, but a happy heart is like a continual feast.
P ROVERBS 15:15 NCV
As a tree produces fruit, wisdom gives life to those who use it, and everyone who uses it will be happy.
P ROVERBS 3:18 NCV
