INTRODUCTION
DO YOU WANT TO go deeper in your relationship with Jesus? Are you going through a difficult time and wondering whether your faith even matters? Bible Promises to Live By can help by introducing you to an expansive list of Gods promises in Scripture. Isaiah 40:8 tells us, The word of our God stands forever. Gods promises are eternal; they are truth we can build our lives upon.
You may have heard people talk about claiming a Scripture verse for their lives, but what does that look like? Selecting a passage as your life verse simply means youre adopting that truth from God as your own and choosing to let it change how you think. Take Isaiah 55:10-11, for example:
The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
To apply this promise means that you choose to believe that Gods Word will be fruitful in your life. You have faith that as you read Scripture and commit it to memory, it will transform your mind and nourish your soul. Focusing on such a passage is not a magic formula but a practice that trains your mind and heart to respond with Gods truth and love in any given situation. This is the key to life transformation.
In this book, Bible promises are organized by topic to make it easy to search for Scripture that will speak to you in any situation. Each section opens with a devotional thought that introduces the topic and prepares your heart to discover the promises you can cling to in your particular circumstances. As you read, prayerfully invite God to lead you to a verse (or verses) in that section that will be the cornerstone to building a more confident faith. May this practice of resting in the Lords promises help you grow in your knowledge of God and in your understanding of his heart for you.
ANGER ISNT ALWAYS SINFUL, but it can be an indicator of whats going on in your heart. Righteous anger is when you are outraged at an injustice and then use that passionate drive to defend others. Sinful anger is often the result of wounded pride, which can drive you to defend yourself and attack the person who has wronged you, rather than attacking the underlying problem. As you read these promises, ask God to speak to you about the anger youre experiencing. Is there someone you need to forgive or perhaps a situation that calls for grace?
NEHEMIAH 9:17 | You are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love.
PSALM 103:8 | The L ORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
PROVERBS 15:1 | A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.
PROVERBS 19:11 | Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.
ROMANS 12:19 | Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, I will take revenge; I will pay them back, says the L ORD .
EPHESIANS 4:26-27 | Dont sin by letting anger control you. Dont let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
EPHESIANS 4:31-32 | Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
JAMES 1:19-20 | Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.
ANXIETY IS AN EMOTIONAL response to situations that feel outside our control. It can be a mental state or a physical responseand both can paralyze us with feelings of worry over the unknown. God knows that we will face situations that make us uneasy, nervous, and even fearful. He has given us many promises that we can cling to when our worries overwhelm us. Remember God is with you, desires to take care of you, is trustworthy, and is your safe place in the storms of life. Think of these promises as his comforting embrace and calming presence to you. Let your heart rest in these truths.
PSALM 37:5 | Commit everything you do to the L ORD . Trust him, and he will help you.
PSALM 46:1-3 | God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
PSALM 55:22 | Give your burdens to the L ORD , and he will take care of you.
PSALM 145:14 | The L ORD helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads.
ISAIAH 26:3 | You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
JEREMIAH 17:7-8 | Blessed are those who trust in the L ORD and have made the L ORD their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.
PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7 | Dont worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience Gods peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
