Recognizing both the Bibles clear warnings concerning a great last days falling away and some painful trends in the Church today, David Sliker looks much, much higher, emphasizing instead the Lords glorious promises to His people and to His Church. I cannot more highly recommend this deeply insightful and pastoral book.

The fresh and compelling insights of my dear friend and co-worker David Sliker contribute to changing the conversation about the Church and shifting paradigms for what the future might look like. Much is being said about the brokenness and failures of the Church, with many perspectives on the need for reform within the Church. We need more focus on discovering the heart of Jesus for His Church and where His people are going together under His leadership. David inspires confidence in the excellent leadership of Jesus, equipping us to grow in our love for Jesus and His people even in the face of our weak and broken lives. This book provides fresh understanding that the global Body of Christ is the darling of Jesus heart and strengthens our hope and confidence that He will rescue His people from spiritual dullness and empower them to enjoy a vibrant walk in the Spirit with Himthe result of seeing the beauty of the Church as Jesus sees it, right here and right now.

Foreword
Have you ever wondered why shows like Fixer Upper and Top Chef are so incredibly popular? We seemingly never tire of watching a skilled craftsman take a dilapidated, mold-ridden shack and turn it into a mansion. Or watching a consummate artist with food take a bunch of ostensibly incompatible ingredients and turn them into a gorgeous feast for the senses.
The reason is that humans are deeply and innately fascinated by the process of turning chaos into order, brokenness into beauty, a mess into a masterpiece.
This creative process captivates and satisfies us because this is, in fact, what we are created for. Genesis describes the original design and purpose for humanity as cultivation taking the raw, messy, chaotic elements of the world and, in partnership with the Creator, shaping them into order, beauty and flourishing.
Yet in falling into sin, we ceased to be mess fixers and became mess makers. Instead of being partners with God, we became His prodigals, squandering our inheritance, purpose and destiny.
In response, Jesus our Elder Brother journeyed to the wasteland we had made of the world, ransomed us from our spiritual bondage, reconciled us to the Father and, like a patient and methodical master craftsman, began the greatest restoration project in history. First, He is restoring us, His Church, and then through us, as we partner with Him, He will restore the world.
For so many Christians, however, this sounds like a frankly unbelievable story. When we look at ourselves and the world around us, we struggle to perceive how this great Artist is supposedly working in so much mess to create something beautiful.
The real problem is that we dont know Him . When were watching a TV show, we feel confident that the craftsman or chef in charge knows what he or she is doing, and the messier things get, the more excited we become anticipating the miraculous transformation the expert will pull off. When it comes to Jesus creative restoration in our lives and in the world, however, we dont feel that same confidence.
But we can have that confidence. This is the primary purpose of Scriptureto show us the nature of this great Artist who is at work in us and in the world, making all things new and beautiful in His time. The psalmist tells us that God has a plan for our lives and for human history, and that this plan is the only plan that will ultimately be accomplished and last for eternity: The L ORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the L ORD stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations (Psalm 33:1011).
