APPRECIATION
I would like to appreciate my wife, Gloria and children, Tobi and Tomiwa for their encouragement in putting together this book. Blessings upon blessings to all of you.
With a grateful heart, I do honor the 12noon team without whose encouragement, I probably would not have gone through with this project. It would be right that I mention by name Afolabi Joseph, Coshia Belvet and Seyi Daniels in making this happen.
May God bless you and yours in Jesus name.
Table of Contents
A careful study of the 3rd chapter of Genesis will reveal that the most significant thing that Adam and Eve lost in the Garden of Eden is their identity. Satans cunningly got them to question what the father had already said to them about who they were as His kids, made in His image and after His likeness. They did not need to try to be like God as they were already made in His identity. My very dear friend Niyi Olujobi through this book Embracing Your Identity In Christ has done an incredible work of expanding on the truth about identity crisis of mankind today and the significance of what Jesus came to restore back to mankind.
Niyi Olujobi, a certificate specialist in inner healing and with over two decades of pastoral experience has carefully helped us to understand many concepts concerning the issue of identity crisis that mankind is dealing with today. This book will provoke you to visit questions about your identity like Who Am I? For both the believer in Christ and unbelievers, this is a critical question that will determine whether a person functions properly or malfunctions. Our world today is full of many malfunctioning people who struggle with all kinds of demonically induced thoughts that cause them to be confused about their personality, passions, gender, sexuality and even their humanity. The root of all this dysfunction and malfunction of man is the loss of our true identity. Someone once said that if the true purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. Similarly, if you dont know who you really are, you will also miss the purpose for your life and will end up abusing yourself and others. This is why God expressed frustration with the men who were allowing themselves to be demonically influenced to reduce themselves to a level below animals as they engaged in sexual acts that even animals do not naturally do. These kinds of acts must indeed cause the heart of a loving father to bleed.
In this book, you will learn so much about what is available to everyone that receives Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour. True salvation includes complete adoption or re-assimilation into the family of God. True Christianity is not a religion but access to relationship with the God of Heaven who wants to be your father. The ultimate you can aspire to be is a son of God. Again, in this book you will learn about the different levels of sonship (from Hebrew root words such as teknon and huios). Truly the chapters of this book are full of awesome revelations of Gods word carefully unpacked for us.
One the other concepts that this book deals with very well is knowing how to relate to God as our father and what we can expect to receive from Him. Indeed sons differ from servants like angels. We are highly privileged. Pastor Niyi has done a fantastic job in breaking this truth down that you cannot possibly stay ignorant about your identity in Christ.
I assure you that your life will never be the same after reading this book. Indeed its time for you to embrace your true identity in Christ and begin enjoying the full benefits that come with it.
Apostle Daniel Mateola
T his book brings to light how the Father sees us with scriptural references and how we are to respond to the Fathers heart for us. This book takes us from just embracing who we are in Him to assuming the responsibility of a son based on love and not necessarily duty.
The revelation of our identity in Christ should be the foundation of all discipleship program for new believers in Christ and one of the key steps in ministering to those who are students of inner healing and the basis of follow-up after freedom sessions with people. The concept and revelation of our identity in Christ is crucial in developing a proper relationship with God our Father.
As I look into scriptures to illustrate this concept of identity, the perfect example I could pick is the story of Jesus baptism. Jesus had been born through the virgin-birth and we knew nothing about the life of Jesus until He was about 12 years old where He was about His Fathers business. This statement from Jesus, even at age 12, showed the understanding that Jesus had about His relationship with God the Father, responsibility of sonship and the concept of family.
We heard nothing more about the formative years of Jesus in scripture until the time of His baptism.
Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me? But Jesus answered and said to him, Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he allowed Him. When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
(Matthew 3:13-17)
The bible records that Jesus came from Galilee to John that He may be baptised. Despite Johns reluctance, he eventually agreed based on the insistence of Jesus. When Jesus was baptised and He came out from the water, God the Father decides to affirm His Son. The Father said:
This is Mine:
The Father is saying this Person is Mine. I accept Him and He belongs to Me. I believe God is not just saying this about Jesus, but He is saying the same about you and I. This illustrates how God sees us. This illustrates the fact that we are not just a number; we are not just one of many people on earth, but we are individually His. We belong to God just as Jesus belonged to Him.
