The Witches Almanac, Issue 35, Spring 2016-2017: Air: The Breath of Life: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "The Witches Almanac, Issue 35, Spring 2016-2017: Air: The Breath of Life" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

Founded in 1971, The Witches Almanac is a witty, literate, and sophisticated publication that appeals to general readers as well as hard-core Wiccans. At one level, it is a pop reference that will fascinate anyone interested in folklore, mythology, and culture, but at another, it is the most sophisticated and wide-ranging annual guide available today for the mystic enthusiast.

Modeled after the Old Farmers Almanac, it includes information related to the annual moon calendar (weather forecasts and horoscopes), as well as legends, rituals, herbal secrets, mystic incantations, interviews, and many a curious tale of good and evil. Although it is an annual publication with about 15 percent of the content specific to the date range of each issue, there are pages and pages of interesting and timeless articles about Witchcraft/Wicca, magic, herbalism, charms, spells, and related topics.

The theme of Issue 35 (Spring 2016 Spring 2017) is air: the breath of life. Also included are articles on Lithuanian Day of the Dead, Nine Elements of the Druids, Tomb Sweeping Day, Kohl, and the Akashic Records.

IN THE PRESENT DAY many are focusing on the next world crisis global warming - photo 4

IN THE PRESENT DAY, many are focusing on the next world crisis global warming, financial catastrophe, drought, war, earthquakes, civil inequality and many other unpredictable and frightening matters. Differences in culture, location, race and gender are among the things that influence us when we direct our focus toward such things. Nevertheless, everyone is concerned with what the whole world thinks of the troubles around us in a global community sense.

There is a division here, not just a division of the have and have-nots in a financial sense but a greater one; a division between the wise and the great pool of the unaware. The wise know how to balance their inner selves, where the unwise have no idea of such subtleties. As witches and magicians, we are aware that manifestation comes from the beyond into our mundane world, not the other way around.

Our attention should not only be on external issues although that is a necessary part of living in the mundane world but it should also be focused on the realm of the inner worlds. Peace does not come from without and influence the world within. It works in reverse. The peace found within grows to affect the world without. This is the way true world harmony will prevail. We must use our skills and talents in the astral and beyond to affect the conventional world. As either a force of Light, an individual in harmony with Nature, or the member of a secret society, we should all strive to bring peace, harmony and compassion to the world. Let us use all of our skills to reach this goal. Let us raise the consciousness of all people.

Invocation to Diana

Diana beautiful Diana Who art indeed as good as beautiful By all the worship - photo 9

Diana, beautiful Diana!

Who art indeed as good as beautiful,

By all the worship I have given thee,

And all the joy of love which thou hast known,

I do implore thee aid me in my love!

What thou wilt tis true Thou canst ever do:

And if the grace I seek thou'lt grant to me,

Then all, I pray, thy daughter Aradia,

And send her to the bedside of the girl,

And give that girl the likeness of a dog,

And make her then come to me in my room,

But when she once has entered it, I pray

That she may reassume her human form,

As beautiful as e'er she was before,

And may I then make love to her until

Our souls with joy are fully satisfied.

Then by the aid of the great Fairy Queen

And of her daughter, fair Aradia,

May she be turned into a dog again,

And then to human form as once before!

Aradia: Gospel of the Witches
Charles Godfrey Leland, 1899

Aradia: Gospel of the Witches may be read in its entirety in The Witches' Almanac edition featuring an introduction by Professor Robert Mathiesen and new essays by notable modern Craft authors including Paul Huson, Raven Grimassi, Judika Illes and Dr. Leo Louis Martello.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

by Timi Chasen

THE DARK SIDE. Do you believe your own eyes? Can you truly trust what you see? Even those well versed in the concept of hidden realities may still take for granted the solidity of the chair on which they sit, but the material world constitutes a mere sliver of the complete universe. Magic has long asserted the existence of planes beyond the material, and advances in science serve to confirm that intuition. Take for instance dark matter, which comprises over eighty percent of the known universe and yet cannot be observed directly. Dark matter neither emits nor absorbs light; its presence is known only through inference, when its gravitational force distorts the visible light of the cosmos. Several new dark matter mapping projects are currently underway across the globe, from teams and observatories as far flung as Chile, Hawaii, Japan, and the Netherlands. These mapping endeavors strive to create an accurate understanding of how dark matter is distributed throughout the universe. This information could lead to further revelations, such as the true nature of dark energy. If the existence of dark matter is only inferred, dark energy currently exists merely as speculation. Confirmation of the presence of dark energy could completely reshape our understanding of the nature of the universe. Until then, keep your eyes peeled for invisible forces.
