Foreword
I am incredibly honored to write the foreword for this book. There is an ethereal richness in runic study that spans millennia. This ancient use of symbols can help bring us into the awareness of the inner workings of the universethe behind-the-scenes unfolding of our destined life path, which also pays homage to the breadth and fullness of our free will. In this book, you will learn about the history of runes and how these symbols can be used to uncover what cannot be revealed through logical deduction.
The rise of the patriarchy gave us the gift of logic through the written word. But this gift came with a price. Linear thinking became the dominant function and eventually rewired the human mind, revolutionizing the collective consciousness. However, 98 percent of our brain does not use language, logic, and belief. The linear mind makes up 2 percent of our brain, and its function is to organize the data that the other 98 percentthe relational part of our braincollects through other means. In utilizing only 2 percent of this highly functional supercomputer, weve collectively lost our sensing intelligence, our ability to feel the world around us.
The runes serve as a communication portal of sorts, to assist in articulating what the sensing intelligence knows and helping us go beyond what is possible with mere logic. Incorporating these symbols into a daily practice is a wonderful way to grow the subtle body and focus our attention on daily synchronicities that are unfolding around us in each moment.
My favorite example of sensing intelligence is the ingenuity of the ancient Polynesians, who navigated the ocean without modern-day tools. The Polynesians used their intuition to travel hundreds of miles in canoes by intricately connecting to naturethe waves, currents, clouds, wind, and stars. They could tell that land was nearby without even being able to see it because they were at one with natural forces. They passed this gift down through generations until it became part of their collective consciousness. This ability represents the mastery of the divine feminine essence.
Ancient runic practice is part of this collective conscious awareness of the divine feminine essence. It was meant to be that Delanea would eventually write this book and share her insight into the runes with the world. She has a keen ability to apply the energies of both the divine feminine and the divine masculine, and she can use them to create in the external world. This is the way of the goddess.
I met Delanea in a virtual psychology class in graduate school. She went on to build a business that would uplift the consciousness of corporate environments by teaching mindfulness and spiritually based practices. I am amazed by her courage and ability to successfully communicate her message in masculine-oriented corporate structures and systems.
A few years after our class together, I took a trip to Connecticut to visit her. In those few days, Delanea introduced me to the runes. I was intrigued. I was familiar with receiving messages through tarot readings and other oracles, but I had never used runes before. We talked at length about the runes and other holistic modalities, and our friendship blossomed.
On the last day of my visit, I went to her office for a Reiki session. The channeled messages conveyed during that session changed my life, and I left Connecticut a different person. I am forever grateful to Delanea and the others present that day who set me on the path toward my healing journey.
That experience was the catalyst for my recollection of what I call goddess essence: the communion of the masculine and feminine dynamic. We all have this knowing. It is not something we need to learn; it is instead what we need to remember.
We are constantly playing and working with duality on this plane, and herein lies the ultimate duality: the push and pull between masculine and feminine energies. The union of these dynamics supports the recognition of wholeness. There is great power to be discovered when we learn how to harmonize these energies.
The societal systems ingrained in the collective consciousness do not make it easy for us to find harmony in this way. The power of the feminine has been long forgotten. With the rise of the patriarchy came the colonization of the goddess. This is what all colonization is: the desire to make the feminine like the masculine. Colonization was designed to perpetuate obedience, but the wild divine feminine essence cannot be suppressed. The oppression of the mysterious feminine eventually evoked a collective uprising of women against the masculine. In our quest for equal rights as women, we became socialized to disown our femininity, and we have instead served as a mirror to the shadow aspect of the masculine dynamic.
The message women heard was that not only must we do everything men can do, but we have to do it better. Instead of finding flow in receiving, we decided we must do it all ourselves. The outcome of all that effort is that most women are completely drained and exhausted. We learned that the feminine dynamic is not valuable, yet we still exist in the shadow side of it, because fundamentally it is us. We see the shadow side of the feminine expressed as criticism, trickery, gossip, catastrophizing, depression, and silence.
