Then was brought unto [Jesus] one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
Matthew 12: 2228

As I sit here looking out the window of my tiny bedroom down onto the busy freeway, I lean back in my chair, sigh, and wonder what in the world God has planned for all of usfor this reality we live in. In a life wrought with uncertainty, tensions are high, fears are soaring, and it seems as if existence itself is out to make a mockery of the beliefs and ideals we all hold dear.
Despite feeling that the world is spinning out of control, I still cling to the understanding that all this is Gods Planfrom the rising and setting of the sun right down to whether Meagan across the street will land her first job with the local coffee shop this summer. But knowing that God is in control of what we may otherwise see as pure chaos doesnt help me with the feelings of dissatisfaction, sadness, or confusion that we all seem to constantly face.
There are times when emotions get the best of me and I scream heavenward, clutching my hair in frustration, God, what are you up to now? It is then that Archangel Michael appears, bringing his golden rays of sunlight with him.
You chose this, Chantel, the angel whispers. You knew, well before you came here, the world you would have to endure.
Well, that bit of insight does little to ease my discontent about the never-ending struggle with itself that humanity seems to be locked into. But at the end of the day, Michael is right. We all knew the turmoil wed have to suffer when we chose to partake in this reality. Its as Archangel Uriel told me a long time agono one is here because they were forced to be.
Were all here because we want to be.
Given that, I guess theres little excuse to bemoan our dispositions and circumstances, our decisions and their consequences. We all came here because we knew we could withstand everything this reality had to throw at us. And were here only because God trusted that we could handle it. Nevertheless, we are human, and subject to human emotions and frailties. This can create stumbling blocks along the arduous road of life we travel as we try to make our way back home.
I mean, thats where were really headed, after all. Home to the realm of spirit, to the bosom of God (however you view him her it). A friend of mine once mused, Its like God drove me out to the forest and dropped me off, spun me around, and left me with a compass and a Swiss Army knife to find my way back to him, some light-years away. The more I thought about this, the more I began to share that sentiment. Im guessing that a lot of you reading this feel the same way.
Im not saying God abandoned us. Not in the least. Hes hovering quietly, watching to see how we do on this survival challenge. So we tread along like little children, trying so hard to be brave because we told Daddy we were big enough now to go it alone. But deep down inside, were scared to death of the slightest shift of the wind and every little rustle of the leaves. We want so badly to call out and say, I changed my mind! But we cant. Dad told us, when he plunked us down here, that once he did that, there was no turning back.
And so the journey begins.
So here you are, trekking along a very set and directed path home (though youve no map that tells you this). Just because God isnt visible to our human eyes doesnt mean that he isnt present. Not only is he observing your journey, but hes sent your big brothers and sistersthe angelsto watch over and help you. It may seem like youre walking alone, but there will come a moment when you spot, out the corner of your eye, your brothers smile or a wisp of your sisters hair. You may hear your sisters giggle on the wind, or wake up after a lonely night to find that someone covered you with a warm blanket. So, regardless of obstacles or fears, you keep pressing along. When you reach the edge of the forest, you realize that you were never in any real dangerafter all, you were only exploring your own back yard! And there on the patio sits Dad with a knowing grin. You run toward him with a beaming smile.
